According to police, as the officer pulled over the vehicle the driver fired several shots at the him. A second officer returned fire, but the suspects were able to get away.
The injured officer was rushed to University Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.
Police are now looking for the occupants of the car. They describe the vehicle as a gold compact car, possibly a Saturn or Honda, with tinted windows and yellow writing on the rear of the vehicle.
Police are warning the public to call 911 if they have any information on this case, but to be cautious because the suspects are believed to be armed and dangerous.
Chief Jerry Dyer told KSEE 24 News that he has every patrol unit in the city looking for the suspects.

The last information I heard was that officer is in critical condition, and that the Police have found the vehicle the suspects were driving. No one is in custody at this time.
MS-13?
My first guess is that it will be gang related. But Fresno has black, hispanic, and asian gangs. The question is which one?
Islamism until demonstrated otherwise.
There will be a local update at noon PST, so I will notify if anything has changed. By the description of the vehicle though, I don't think Islamics are involved. It sounds too much like a run of the mill gang vehicle.
Did they call the cop a jew and go off on an anti- semite tirade first? If not then nothing to report here.
"...They describe the vehicle as a gold compact car, possibly a Saturn or Honda, with tinted windows and yellow writing on the rear..."
If I had to hazard a guess I would say the vehicle also had a "coffee can" exhaust system, graphics in the windows saying Baad Boyyzz or something equally absurd, spinner rims, and rear drums because they didn't want to upgrade to all disc brakes. Just my theory, of course.

Ya think?
Well, I don't know, that might be jumping to conclusions.
Naw, this is Fresno. If you ask the street people what they think is going on in Qana, they're probably think you mean Canada.
Not again.
Prayers for this officer--I hope he pulls through.
Thanks my friend. I have said prayers already, and will say some more.
The original stop was for no license plates. When the vehicle stopped, six shots were fired at the officer. He was hit three times, once in the leg, and twice in the upper body. His body armor was not effective. Another officer at the scene returned fire. The car turned out to be stolen.
No description of the suspects was given during this latest report.
Who cares? Shoot all known gang members. Kill a gang member and you save one or more innocent lives.
"Police are looking for 25 year old Joaquin Figueroa. He's described as a Hispanic male with several tattoos. He has a Raiders shield covering almost his entire back, and his last name also on his back."
He also has a tattoo on his arm that says "Raider Nation." There are $10,000 rewards for information leading the arrest of each suspect.
Figueroa is still being called a "person of interest." Amd now, the FBI has been called in to assist.
Hope they catch these perps. They could be back in Mexico by now.
Still praying for Officer Nieto.
They may have fled the area, but I think they are going to be citizens. I will keep you posted though, and thanks for your prayers for the officer. God bless you.
Hanford Police said Wednesday that Joaquin Figueroa, 25, is a person of interest in the case of Debbie Hawk, 46, a Hanford mother of three who was reported missing June 13. Officers later changed the classification of the case to a homicide after tests showed that blood in the woman's home and car was hers.
This account by the BEE doesn't list Figueroa as a person of interest in the shooting of officer Nieto, it states that he is being sought for the shooting. The other part is stunning. Mrs. Hawk disappeared and her body has not been found. The information that Figueroa is a person of interest in THAT case is not good, if it is true that he is being sought for the shooting of officer Nieto. "Bulldog" gang members have, in the past, kidnapped and carjacked people, and murdered them. I am not alleging that Figueroa is a gang member, I'm only saying that I would not be surprised now if a gang member is involved in the Hawk disappearance!
