Actually, there's no big difference to the christian church...at least Islamism didn't yet destroy the history of a whole continent, like the Spanish Church did in South America. The war count of Christianity and Mohammedanism are probably about equal. I also see radical Islamism as a threat that needs to be dealt with and I acknowledge that Western society learned somewhat quicker and as a result seriously restrained the influence of God's earthly arm in politics, but let's not get too overexcited about how unjust and cruel they have been compared to us.

Yeah, you are right....they need a little more time to learn that lopping of heads is bad m'kay. Are you kidding me? Welcome to 2006! These are the people who WANT to live in a pre modern era state. I have read many articles where UBL tells his followers not to use ice in their drinks so they don't become used to modern conveniences....sounds like some Jim Jones crap to me. Who am I to get "overexcited" about something as silly as a "religion" still following sharia law, they just need more time to grow!

I'm not weeping salt tears for the various forms of human sacrifice wiped out by the Spanish. Nor would I weep bitter tears of regret if modern Conquistadors ground the very name of Allah into the dust. The lesson we are painfully relearning is that some cultures don't deserve to survive.

Wasn't the history and culture of South America based on human sacrifice. Something that doesn't jive with Christianity.

You forget that the Spanish were overrun by the Moors aka Muslims.

So it's still Islam's fault that the world is screwed up, thank you very much. The Crusades were taken up to fight against the Moors...STILL Islam's fault.

The Romans were a warrior people, but they were also democratic in their cultural outlook. ANYONE could become a Roman citizen and rise in rank. Can you say the same about Islam? I thought not.

"Actually, there's no big difference to the christian church"

I am talking about contemporary history, not centuries ago.
The fact of the matter is, most (over 99%) of the terrorism, bombings, suicidal attacks, etc that have been carried out in the past 30 years (including 9/11) have been carried out by Muslims.

Sure they had a quasi religious conflict in Northern Ireland, but it pales into insignificance when compared to what the Islamofacists halve done.
I lived in Britain at the hight of the troubles in Northern Ireland, as far as I can recall, there wasn't even one Irish suicide bomber, nor did any IRA people drive planes into buildings and murder 3000 innocent souls.

What have YOU been drinking?

How many people did Jesus Christ rape and kill. When did Jesus Christ demand that The Word be spread by the sword.

WTF is "The Spanish Church" and when did it commission explorers?

The advancement of European society came WITH and under the influence of The Church--NOT against it, the United States of America being the logical conclusion of that thrust.

This silly, pernicious equivalence you state between Islam and Christianity is PC kool-aid.

"at least Islamism didn't yet destroy the history of a whole continent,"

I suggest you read the history oh Mohamed again, his entire modus operandi consisted of killing, burning, looting and pillaging anyone who wouldn't bow down to his insane religion.
The entire Muslim religion was spread by wars, right from the get go.
Don't let me even start on the Taliban, and their unique "contribution" to history and culture:

"Afghanistan's ruling Taleban have blown up two giant Buddha statues in defiance of international efforts to save them, according to independent reports.

---snip----

Reports say the demolition of the ancient monuments near Bamiyan - one thought to be the tallest of its kind in the world - was supervised by the Taleban's defence minister over the last few days.

The Taleban's foreign minister, Wakil Ahmed Muttawakil, told Mr Annan in Pakistan that demolition was still continuing, though not much of the ancient treasures was left.

"Basically he confirmed that all movable statues have been destroyed and the destruction of the two [giant] statues had begun, but he could not tell me the status of the demolition," Mr Annan said.

Two-day demolition

But an aid worker quoted by the AP news agency said witnesses told him the destruction was now complete.

The larger, 53-metre (175-feet) statue was blown up on Thursday, and the smaller 38-metre (120-feet) destroyed the following day.

The statues are among Asia's great archaeological treasures

The aid worker said the work was "professionally done".
The extent of the damage is hard to confirm, as the militia have blocked journalists from visiting the province.
The monuments, once a big tourist draw, dated back to between the second and fifth centuries AD, before the coming of Islam, when Afghanistan was a centre of Buddhist learning and pilgrimage. "

Yeah. Let's emulate the social Darwinist atheists instead. /sarc How many did they murder in the 20th Century alone? 200 million?

That's a conservative number.

I'll take God over Allah and Darwin any day.

I'm stealing this from another Freeper whose name I forget but he basically said, you have to go back 500 years to find Christians killing people; you only have to go back 24 hours to find Muslims doing it.

Whats with "we"? Christians? "We" Christians, who are alive today, are not ANYTHING like modern Islamofacists. There is no comparison. What happened hundreds of years ago is no Christians fault today.

This is idiocy, and I'll tell you what, I dont blame ANY German under 60 for what happened during WWII.

Destroying history in South America was hardly comparable to the actions and oppression of the radical Islamists. Not forgetting the "civilizations" of the ruthless and murderous Incans, Aztecs and other bloodthirsty groups terrorizing their unfortunate citizens. Rewriting history or contorting it doesn't change it, by the way, what is the "Spanish Church"?

You have missed a great deal of history, the Spanish Church learned its cruelity from the Towelist Moose-limbs. Dolt!

Pigdog, Islam destroys everything in its path. Look at the middle east, there used to be some of the world's most advanced societies there. Now they're gone and replaced with a stagnant ass-backwards culture.

Additionally, the Spaniards didn't exterminate the natives. The Arabs on the other hand killed almost everyone they could.

Actually, there's no big difference to the christian church...

No, no difference at all. When I watched that second plane hit the WTC, I wondered whether it was a muslim, a Baptist, or a Lutheran.

Tune back in to reality. The Church didn't engage in warfare for the first several hundred years, really until it was surrounded by Islam - a religion which engaged in warfare from day one. Have you ever considered the fact that the "Christian" nation most responsible for the acts you mention had been dominated - and therefore influenced - by islam for 700 years?

IOW, Christians killed in spite of the teachings of Jesus, while muslims kill because of the teachings of muhammed. The Church was peaceful for hundreds of years, went through the defensive crusade period and then the conquistador period, and was eventually restored to the foundations of Jesus. Islamists slaughtered the "infidel" while muhammed was alive, and have never taken a break as long as their strength permitted.

Other than that small difference, and a couple of hundred others, they're exactly the same.
