Great Britain: Migrants 'ruining lives'(schools, hospitals and housing face 'disaster')

Migrants 'ruining lives'

By DAVID WOODING
Whitehall Editor

A MASSIVE rise in immigration is wrecking the quality of life in Britain, a study by MPs warned yesterday.

Soaring house prices, water shortages, gridlocked roads and over-stretched public services are all linked to the population explosion.

The influx is also blamed for family strife as couples split under pressure of coping with higher housing costs.

And things are set to get worse, with a 7.2million growth in population predicted over 30 years — mostly from immigration.

Tory MP Julian Brazier, of the Cornerstone group of MPs, challenges party leader David Cameron to back his “quality of life” campaign with a tough immigration policy.

Mr Brazier says: “Overcrowding is a key cause of many factors which are destroying quality of life.”

It comes a day after leaked government papers said schools, hospitals and housing face disaster from immigration pressures.

Immigration 'harms life quality'

An immigration worker
The UK immigration system is to undergo a shake-up
Record levels of immigration are overcrowding the UK and helping to destroy people's quality of life, says a right-wing group of Conservative MPs.

The Cornerstone Group says the number of migrants coming to the UK is pushing up housing prices, increasing road congestion and stretching services.

The group calls for new controls of migrant numbers.

The Home Office said immigration brought economic benefits, and that the rules for migration were right.

Public services concern

Home Secretary John Reid set out plans for a shake-up of the immigration and asylum system last week.

They include visible, uniformed immigration officer at ports and airports, a reintroduction of embarkation controls and penalties for employers hiring illegal workers.

The Cornerstone pamphlet is part of a submission for the Tories' review of immigration laws.

Conservative MP Julian Brazier, who wrote the pamphlet, says the work permits system needs to be "radically" tightened.

"Overcrowding is a key cause of many of the factors which are destroying quality of life: mortgage slavery, overdevelopment, congested roads, water shortages, flooding and overstretched public services," he said.

"We should do everything we can sensibly - and fairly - do to reduce the level of immigration to well below the level of emigration.

"The first and easiest step in this direction would be to return to a much smaller number of work permits, as occurred under all previous governments.

"We should also restrict them, as was always the case before, to highly skilled people."

Benefits warning

The government is already moving to a points-based migration system, designed to make it harder for unskilled migrants from outside the EU to get work permits to the UK.

The Home Office said: "The UK enjoys the highest employment rate of the G8 economies and its lowest unemployment for 30 years, by virtue of its open labour market. Job vacancies are still high at around 600,000.

"Treasury forecasts attribute 10% to 15% of economic trend growth to migration. The Bank of England... confirmed that overseas workers play a significant role in boosting the available pool of labour and helping ease shortages, therefore assisting in keeping down inflation.

"We have the right rules for migration to Britain - but we need them enforced in a tough but effective way."

The Cornerstone pamphlet comes after a leaked Home Office document said there was evidence that the influx of foreign workers from the eight ex-communist countries which joined the EU in 2004 had driven down wages in low-paid jobs.

It warned that ministers might be forced to abandon their refusal to grant council houses and welfare benefits to new arrivals who did not work.

And it said government departments had been told to have emergency plans to deal with pressure on public services when Romania and Bulgaria join the EU next year.

The reports prompted Labour MP Frank Field to say the UK should restrict the right of Bulgarians and Romanians to work in the UK when they join the EU.

We just heard from friends that in Salinas, CA a major hospital was closing do to lack of funds from having to provide free services to so many illegals. Further, 3 libraries have closed and the city is threatening to cut back on police and fire services because of lack of money.

Just poor hard-working people doing jobs that the British won't do. How dare those racists suggest that Britain should be British.

Back in the 60s a prominent Tory MP lost his job and was condemned as "racist" for making a speech against immigration - he was upset by a one time intake of less than 100,000 or so but concerned about their assimilation.

Many here admire Blair for his stance on WOT but in every other way his administration has been a gigantic c*ck-up, and a lot of the damage will be permanent.

UK should 'invite' all 'immigrants' to return to their nations of origin until :
1: further notice
2: they denounce Islam and pledge allegiance to their
adopted country

I'm a proud American stoat, but your meaning is understood   :-)

Since our British Friends have allowed themselves to be so effectively disarmed (the law-abiding ones, anyway) my great hope is that they can learn to build weapons for defense such the way the Russians did during the siege of Stalingrad, if the scenario that you bring forth comes about.

Hopefully they will rise to the challenge as they have so many times before.

Illegal immigration will definitely be a hot topic in the next elections.  Hopefully we will get some people who will do more than just talk about it.....I would be happy with a nice, long and stylish wall at our Southern border as well as cracking down on employers who hire illegals.  Having an across the board moratorium on all legal immigration as well would give the country a chance to recover from the onslaught we've experienced over the past few decades.

Another thing my friends told me was that no one in California seemed to want to really talk about it in public for fear of appearing racist. This is in large part why the problem has gotten so huge. Money and fear...

But it's ok for "them" to yell and scream about how "they" want to kill you and take everything you have because it's only fair.

It's terrible, isn't it?  Indigenous peoples having the temerity to think that their country, their history and their culture means something and is somehow worth protecting?

How dare they!

That sounds like a great start!  Backing it up with something more substantial than an invitation, such as cracking down on employers who hire illegals would be an added thought, but I suspect that you had that in mind as well.

Great Britain DESERVES to remain British in all traditional ways....they have done so very much for all of humanity; unlike some other "cultures" that I could mention who remain rooted in pre Iron Age thought processes.

Agreed.  Hopefully it won't require that the problem becomes completely overwhelming (although there are many who argue that it already has) before they find their voices.

Agreed, although I would suggest that our problem is actually worse because we are not an island, and our problem is largely illegal immigrants and as a result we don't even have a good and truly accurate idea of the extent of the problem here.
