The wife and father of kidnapped Israeli soldier Ehud Goldwasser, Karnit, holding a wedding photograph, and Shlomo Goldwasser arrive at Heathrow Airport in London, Monday July 31, 2006. Hezbollah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers on July 12, triggering an Israeli offensive against Lebanon that has killed hundreds of people, mostly civilians.

Are you sure you heard that? Baalbek is far away from the borders and the troops will be totally cut out and it is impossible to hold grounds.
With total air cover and the ability to bring in fresh supplies and reinforcements by helicopter you can hold territory. It's not easy, but we did it during Vietnam. The Mel Gibson movie (before he went nuts) called We Were Soldiers, about LZ X-Ray is a perfect example. And the ability to replenish at night is much better now than it was in the mid 60's. And close air support has changed out of all recognition.

I think there is confusion in this report between holding ground in the South which Israel is intending to do until international forces arrive, and holding ground in Baalabek which does not make any sense from military point of view.
