The update is now getting some traction with an article by Steven Eltert of Life News.
Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Haleigh Poutre was the victim of child abuse and was nearly killed via euthanasia when Massachusetts officials gave up on her after she entered a coma. Now Poutre, once termed "brain dead" by doctors, continues to improve and is speaking a few words, her grandmother says.
Sandra Sudyka, the girl's biological grandmother, is no longer allowed to visit her granddaughter and now says she is ready to speak to the media about Poutre's condition.

Terri on the road to recovery before the second stage began.
Rauch writes that I dont explain whether I think women should get jail terms for seeking abortions, instead mumbling that the pro-life movement does not necessarily seek jail time for women and that fining doctors and revoking medical licenses might suffice. Continuing in the same vein, Rauch asks whether I would punish the discarding or destroying of embryos as first-degree murder. And: If human life is inviolable, then why should it matter whether a hopelessly vegetative patient someone like Terri Schiavo left instructions not to be fed? Surely, from Ponnurus perspective, the doctors caring for her cannot ethically conspire to starve her to death even if she would prefer to die. If every abortion is infanticide, could even the most life-threatening pregnancy be ended? We dont have a health exception to the murder laws.

I don't believe this. At the least, it needs investigation. It was the abusive half-sister, Holli Strickland, who reported Avrett to the DSS for the alleged abuse. As nearly as one can tell, she simply stole Haleigh from Avrett. God alone knows why; given the later abuse, Strickland obviously hated the child. The DSS gave custody to Strickland, the accuser. (Strickland clearly had an "in" with the DSS and was expert at manipulating their agencies, but that's a story for another day.) In Strickland's custody, Haleigh was starved, burned with cigarettes and beaten nearly to death.
Glad to hear Haleigh's condition is improving!!
