Stem cells help broken bones heal

A British hospital has successfully used stem cells to promote healing when fractured bones refuse to mend, saving patients from permanent disability or amputation.

Three patients who had run out of treatment options have handed back their crutches. A total of five out of 10 are making progress but it can take some months for the treatment to begin to work. Doctors at the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopedic Hospital, are harvesting stem cells from the patient's bone marrow, growing them and then applying them to the fracture site where they help broken bone grow again and unite.

"With stem cell therapy, we harvest the patient's own bone marrow, purify out the bone producing cells and stimulate them in a special laboratory to make them multiply. Three to four weeks later, the cells are returned to the patient and implanted at the site of the fracture.

This is rubbish. Everyone knows you need to "harvest" stem cells from human fetuses.

The media likes to leave out things like "illegal" in immigration articles, "adult" or "embryonic" in stem cell articles, "muslim" from terrorism articles and many many other things.

Darn. I am looking forward to seeing TV news expose programs showing the surreal horror of some sort of "human embryo farm" that is right out of a SciFi flic. With bubbling test tubes, shocking distorted humanoid creatures floating in liquid, Jacob's ladders, mad skulking scientist characters laughing maniacally,... but no. NO. They gotta us adult stem cells, no chance of rejection, very high percentage of success, no moral ambiguity, no violation of God's law, no fun at all. Shucks.

THANK YOU! When it's an adult stem cell story, PLEASE make sure to emphasize this. Almost all (if not all) breakthroughs that are working are with the patients' OWN cells!

Wouldn't you want them to use your own cells, and give you the fix with your own cells so there is essentially no rejection risk?

Fringgin embryo-stem-cell morons.

GERONL WROTE: "they will never do big stories about the failures like with cloning..."

Nor will they ever do stories about incredibly successful things like fucoidan and limu like on http://www.RealLimu.com .

I have spent several hours researching the over 650 studies involving fucoidan on the government's website: http://www.PubMed.gov . It is CRIMINAL that the AMA and doctors do not research such things themselves and tell us about them!!!

The nurse had a six-year old break that didn't heal. What I want to know is if this therapy will work for an OLD (and I mean 15+ years) break that's a non-union???

If this worked for her, it might work for me. I'm willing to wait!!
