I'm not saying they aren't staging things, because I believe they are, but I would leave the determination of death to someone with a background in forensics, especially if these bodies are the ones being pulled out of the rubble.
A good forensics guy could validate that assumption (which would be very useful) or let you know if it's just a reporter or rumours stirring the pot.

I read a moderate amount of good true crime and I have learned that sometimes bad injuries to weird things, so I always leave that to the experts. It would be interesting to hear what a medical examiner would say.
