Has Syria completely withdrawn?
Washington Post reports that Syrian intelligence presence remains in Lebanon, despite pledging complete withdrawal
By Yitzhak Benhorin
WASHINGTON - Syria was able to focus the world's attention on its withdrawal from Lebanon following 29 years of occupation, while a significant part of its intelligence presence remains in Lebanon, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.
More than 5,000 agents are operating in Lebanon at present, influencing its politics and economy.

CNN Breaking news email:
-- Israel plans to call up thousands more reservists after Cabinet approved expanding ground war in Lebanon, Reuters reports quoting Israel Radio.
Speaking of Fox reporters; I am growing increasingly annoyed by that Brit guy they have in Lebanon (Jonathan Hunt or something). Twenty minutes ago he was breathlessly reporting the possibilty of a 'new diplomatic track' involving Iran, Syria, Lebanon and France in the eager anticipation of the shallowly informed. All weekend he was bemoaning the fate of the Lebanese terrorist collaborators.
Whoa! I would have paid good money to see it.
what is this?

IDF denies Hizbullah report of missile hit on ship
[ 01/08 01:00 - ISRAEL ]
This is the difference between Hezbollah and the various rag-tag Saladin wannabees who are in the various al qada groups...Hezbollah is an army.
Syria doesn't recognize Lebanon as a separate country. It is part of "greater Syria". They have no diplomatic relations with Lebanon.
Thanks a lot for the posting.
Thanks a lot for the posting.
Earlier today Hez claimed they had attacked and damaged an Israeli ship.
Thanks- I don't know how I missed that one
Kiryat Shmona Residents Enjoy Some Fresh Air
02:22 Aug 01, '06 / 7 Av 5766
(IsraelNN.com) Kiryat Shmona residents on Monday were treated to some sunshine and fresh air due to a day without rocket attacks after almost three weeks of warfare.
The army permitted them to leave shelters, providing them an opportunity to restock on basic needs.
Military officials warn however that residents may not let down their guard and they must remain in proximity to shelters and safe rooms.

Brian Williams is on Hardball...and I must say I think he grasps this whole thing more than any other reporters.
He says this is "bigger that we're reporting it, bigger than the politicians are portraying it. The day-to-day reporting of rockets falling her and there...and the body counts...are missing the big picture."
The nut, in Williams' mind, and the biggest unknown is: what is really going on in the so-called moderate Arab states? He says no one can find out what's being said between Washington and the Saudis or Egypt or the UAE. It's a news blackout.
I think he nails it.
Right now I am listening to the weather prediction of a line of thunderstorms moving through Iowa, hopefully heading my way in a day or so. Keeps me from getting too upset by stuff Shep says.
Jonathan Hunt was really pro-Hezbollah this weekend, wasn't he? I was beginning to wonder if they had a gun trained on him off camera.
Update.
