Brian Williams is on Hardball...and I must say I think he grasps this whole thing more than any other reporters.

He says this is "bigger that we're reporting it, bigger than the politicians are portraying it. The day-to-day reporting of rockets falling her and there...and the body counts...are missing the big picture."

The nut, in Williams' mind, and the biggest unknown is: what is really going on in the so-called moderate Arab states? He says no one can find out what's being said between Washington and the Saudis or Egypt or the UAE. It's a news blackout.

I think he nails it.

Oh sure...now everyone is mum but if there's a secret US program being used in the WOT then they're blabbing like two wash women.

They all hate israel. Its just that the terrorists are upfront about their hatred.Secretly they wouldn't mind if Israel didn't exist. After the incident with the alleged Israeli bombing of women and children,I imagine they are steaming.Wouldn't take much more to push them(including Saudi Arabia)over the edge and pledge support for Hez.Things could get pretty scary in the coming days

I really don't think so.

He is right about the media missing the big picture but that big picture is all about Iran and the impact of this war on Iran's future plans. That is THE issue here.

If the Israelis resoundingly defeat Hezbollah then Iran will have lost a key and perhaps crucial strategic advantage: the ability to hold off an Israeli attack on their nuclear facilities by threatening Tel Aviv with missiles launched from Southern Lebanon. That will be gone, gone, gone and without it they have nothing to deter the Israelis and, worse for them, the Americans. We can bomb them with semi-impunity (not counting public opinion in the U.S. or the "Arab Street" of course).

Consider the alternative with Hezbollah in place, fully armed on the day when we either attack Iran or concede them their nuclear weapons. That day will come. What if Iran threatens Tel Aviv with chemical or biological WMDs? Would that restrain the U.S. or Israel. It just might. That is the reason Iran needs Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon and the reason we must let Israel eradicate them once and for all. It just might convince Iran that they need to back down and put their nuclear plans back on the shelf for awhile. If not, then it will free up Israel to go in and take them out with a little help from their friends.
