(Australian)PRIME Minister John Howard had decided to contest the next election, backbenchers said today.
Mr Howard told government MPs in a letter faxed to their offices this morning that he had made his decision after consulting widely with his colleagues over the parliamentary winter break.
"The soundings that he's taken over the last few weeks tell him that there's a strong view of the party that the current leadership team, with him as the leader and (Treasurer Peter) Costello as the deputy leader should remain in place through to the next election," government backbencher Alby Schultz said.
"He thought it would be desirable to resolve his position regarding the leadership in advance of Parliament resuming on the 8th of August."
Mr Howard is expected to formally announce the decision at a press conference in far north Queensland this afternoon.
Apparently the party in Victoria is in a shambles... as if it were being controlled by the opposition
THere is some work to do...
This is good news. I hope the treasurer also gets to become Prime Minister one day.
I hope his patience holds out. He wil be an outstanding PM.
"Peter, It's John, is July 15, 2012 good for you? It'll be a Thursday"
So soon???
LOL!
