Iran President: Lebanon Crisis forces Re-Evaluation of Nuke Plan
Dow Jones Newswire via Easybourse ^ | July 30, 2006

TEHRAN (AP)--Iran's president on Sunday said the crisis in Lebanon has forced Tehran to re-evaluate a Western nuclear incentives package, but his country still plans to respond to the offer next month. "Events in Lebanon affected our evaluations about...(the) package of incentives. We should review it carefully. I have asked my colleagues to review it more carefully," President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said during a news conference. Earlier Sunday, Iran's foreign ministry warned that Tehran would abandon the package if the U.N. Security Council approves a resolution against Iran on Monday. "If any resolution is issued against Iran tomorrow, the package would be left off the agenda by Iran," Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters. "We will definitely revise our nuclear policy." Asefi's comments were the first official Iranian response to a draft resolution giving it until the end of August to suspend uranium enrichment or face the threat of international sanctions. The draft was formally circulated to the full 15-member U.N. Security Council late Friday and observers said it would likely be adopted in the next week. Asefi referred to the ongoing Israeli-Hezbollah war and said that any Security Council action against Iran "will confront the region with more tension," he said. In a commentary Sunday, state-run radio called on Europe to exercise restraint. "Under the international regulations, Iran has the right of achieving peaceful nuclear technology," the broadcast said.

We dare not infer that State Department policy influenced this. Those that wish for Lebanon to be obliterated have fallen silent.

The "diplomatic community" is yet again played for fools. Time and time again those weak kneed losers demonstrate their uselessness by allowing this same old game to be played.

I spoke too soon....
I guess a REAL WAR means that my sons and daughters have to go before a draft board so that others may claim that Saudi Arabia and Israel are worth dying for. Guess what? They are not.

Wait a second. I thought the Iranians have said repeatedly that the Nuclear program was for "energy purposes only".

Why oh why would they have to "reconsider" a nuclear policy if it was for "energy purposes only"?

It is more than apparent that Ahmadinejad knew what was going to happen in Israel when he put off responding. Now that Israel has gone wobbly, the good guys are looking like fools.

This guy is just trying to buy as much time as he can to run his "peaceful" nuclear program behind the scenes.

It's hard to believe that anyone, even the most credulous Clintonite, could be taken in by this transparent ploy.

your joking...but there is some truth to this. Iran is making not only the US, but Europe look like complete fools. Western nations are limp due to liberalism and political correctness and a overall lack of common sesne to admit that its only a matter of time before theses crazy SOBs hit us at home.

Good eye Hoboto!

And, why would an avowed enemy suddenly say he's been "forced" to reconsider, just because he's watched a few terrorists get blown away? They're just trying to get the kinks worked out to launch something.

It will land on them, like the N.Korean tests we found did not go as far as originally claimed, but basically up and down. Then Israel or us will be blamed.

Dear Mahmoud,

My country is war weary. Our Democrat politicians and their MSM have convinced a large percent of our citizens that we can't handle a military conflict with you, that we can't have another ground war at this time.

I won't argue with them on this point, but let me make you a promise. We won't invade you, but I will nuke you if you don't knock this $h!t off!

Luv George

Yes, if Iran's leaders were not stone-cold lying psychopaths there would be no relationship whatsoever between events in Lebanon and the "peaceful" Iranian nuclear program. But of course anyone whose brain isn't a puddle of pudding knows that Iran is merely toying with naive and/or imbecilic western diplomats while they advance their NUCLEAR WEAPONS program in every way possible.
