Quito, Jul 30 (EFE).- The Ecuadorian navy detained 114 emigrants headed for Guatemala and from there to the United States, the press reported Sunday.
A navy vessel on routine patrol spotted the fishing boat Mi Esperanza on Saturday 54 nautical miles off the western port city of Manta, the El Comercio newspaper said.
The 15-meter (49-foot) boat was packed with the more than 100 emigrants, Navy spokesman Capt. Temy Mantilla said.
The boat, which was being lashed by heavy waves, later sank, Mantilla said.
The emigrants, 64 men, 32 women and 18 children, were mainly from southern Ecuador.
The fishing boat was also carrying a large quatity of diesel and gasoline that navy officials said was being smuggled out of the country.
In August 2005, nearly 100 U.S.-bound Ecuadorian emigrants drowned when their overcrowded boat sank in the Pacific Ocean.
The boat, built to hold a maximum of 15 people, was carrying 103 emigrants bound for Guatemala, and from there the United States, when it sank just a day after setting sail from the northern Ecuadorian port of Esmeraldas.
Several other diappearances of migrant-laden vessels that sailed from Ecuador have been reported in recent years. EFE sm/hv

Decided to head for the states.
Ecuador: The Other Mexico.
Holy nest eggs, Batman, what does their media tell them about the retail price of fuels in the US of A?
Ecuador's an oil producing state, and retail prices are subsidized above that. They probably pay about a dollar a gallon for the stuff, so anyone they sell it to on the outside will still give them a profit.
Catch & release?? : )

More ignorance, headed for our country, knowing our government will support them and give them amnesty.
Our president has never said otherwise - has has been too busy rolling out the red carpet.
"The fishing boat was also carrying a large quatity of diesel and gasoline that navy officials said was being smuggled out of the country."
