BREAKING: FOX reporting IDF has video proving Qana building had launchers

If the Fox report is correct, this is an important omission, which encourages the terrorists. Even if one ignores Israel, the impact on the people we're fighting in Iraq should be considered.

I noticed it. There was no condemnation from the Secretary of Hezbollah's reprehensible practice of using Lebanese civilians as human shields. The very least Secretary Rice could have said is that this practice is wrong and Israel was not to blame for those deaths, the sole responsibility of which rests with Hezbollah that has converted Lebanese towns and villages into killing fields. We must protest this error in judgment and Hezbollah must not escape the consequences of its breaking every law known to man and God alike.

Sometimes it seems to me that this admin as a whole seems unwilling or unable to bring up certain truths about the enemy. This is one occasion; the WMD is another. Frustating, and perhaps counterproductive--even if they think it is the high road.

A fair person would state that, if only to delegitimize their use against Americans in Iraq.

Careful now. You'll have the 'Condi for President' or 'Condi for Saint' people swooping down on you, pecking like a buzzard on roadkill.

Look, we are trying to give the IDF time.

We have to show sympathy for the dead Lebanese today, while the IDF produces the evidence of Hezzie missile perfidy.

Give Condi a break, will you? She is dealing with an Israeli Government that is pursuing a war strategy of half-measures. Try to remember that the IDF is stuck with Olmert as PM, not Sharon.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

We must establish a simple foundation here before getting too far ahead of ourselves. Hezbollah are the criminals here. It is Israel that is the aggrieved party. All the Qanas in the world and all the diplomatic double-talk Rice can muster won't change that. No justice, no peace!

We also have to realize that we cannot have a circumstance in which there is a return to the status quo ante, in which there is a zone in Southern Lebanon in which a terrorist can violate the Blue Line,

It sounds like Rice and the Israelis are discussing the size and boundaries of a buffer zone, and the make-up of forces that will police the buffer zone.

That sounds like they have backed off the original requirement that Hezbollah disarm. If so, its a mistake, because it guarantees that this war will re-ignite, and next time will be tougher than this time. The arabs take a long view; they are observing what worked, what didn't work, and they will adjust accordingly.

Any "cease-fire" that leaves Hezbollah in place will guarantee that war continues.

Olmert seems to have set for himself very modest goals. Rice seems to be giving him time to meet those goals, Israel won't be stopped until the Nato force is identified. But while a buffer zone is necessary, it is insufficient. Syria and Iran are the ultimate authors of this war, and they are the ultimate authors of the insurgency we face in Iraq. I would like to think we are putting in place a pause so we can go after the source of the problem, but I don't see it. I see a pause so we can get past the elections in November, which are very important, but hardly a strategy for a reformed middle east.

I couldn't care less if she's ever President.

I support the President's policy, which is exactly the right one and has been clearly spelled out.

I have no problem with what she said. This is diplospeak. But she is absolutely firm in her words of blaming the entire thing on Hezbollah attacking Israel from Lebanese territory being the reason all of this has happened, and that more than a mere ceasefire is absolutely to be insisted upon.

Israel says it has proof of firing coming from near the building. The issue of human shields is out there and will stay out there.

I will let the whole thing play out and trust the President and Condi unless they go back on their basic policy.

You're right. I can't imagine a force, other than a restructured, retrained Lebanese Army that will enforce order. I don't want to see US or British troops there, it's a losing proposition. The best solution would be for Israel to stay till the Lebanese Army was capable and willing to stand up, but I doubt that will happen.

On the face of it Madam Secretary has lost her mind. The terrorists have been bombing Israel for about 50 years now.
This time the Hizzies have gone to far and are getting what they deserve for it. It appears that Sec. Rice thinks that a ceasefire is the answer, it is not. They will only rearm and try it again and again. There is a time when dedicated people refuse to learn from history.

Not if our SOS doesn't bring it up in news conferences and keep hammering them on it. They could say, 'It's not true or America's SOS would have said something.'

These terrorist are PR geniuses. We need to be as well.

Amen, it is not. Time to annihilate them or be prepared to do it all over again...in perpetuity. Hell, like you said, it's already been 50 years.

Why can't the Bush admin just keep its freakin' mouth shut for a change? I have never seen such spineless pandering to the media and to the world. Just keep out of it. But no, they are so worried because we support the right of Israel to exist....rotten, stinking politics.

Ms Rice may be a highly intelligent woman, with a great future in politics, but she is a failure as a Sec of State. As others have said before me, we need someone with fire in their eyes, ice in their veins, fluent in ME language(s) and testicles. She fails in at least two of the categories.

There are some ideas that are so outlandish, that only a scholar could believe them...........one of those is that with the proper wording in a document, or giving enough land or food or aid will bring peace. Send a clear message to Israel completely in the open, do as you see fit.

Wait a minute! She's not saying anything about terrorists using human shields. That fact needs to be reiterated time and time again to get the fact home that these murdering terrorists aren't nice people and don't deserve to live. Rice is playing right into the islamic hands. Sheesh!

Rice is doing what all mediators do...pressure the parties. Unfortunately, its easier to pressure the sane and rational. This is why Israel must be resolute even if it means showing what others perceive as barbarism and otherwise scare the living piss out of the world. So long as others perceive her to be more likely to give in then that's who they'll pressure. Scorched earth and unconditional surrender is the only way.
