Minuteman Civil Defense Corps Responds to Washington Times (Simcox)
Human Events ^ | Jul 29, 2006 | Chris Simcox

Recently, the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, Inc. (MCDC), and our fiduciary accountability has been called into question in reports in the Washington Times newspaper. Its editors continue to misrepresent the facts and have purposely based their reports and editorials on information that is inaccurate.

They continue in their attempt to hold us to a different and improperly applied fiduciary standard than any other non-profit in the country. Jerry Seper and Wes Pruden seem not to understand the first, most basic matters of non-profit accounting and regulatory obligation. Further, Pruden absurdly describes Seper’s reporting as “careful, rigorous” when Seper has not spoken to at least two of his three “sources” on this matter in over a year, and he and his editors deliberately failed to disclose in their innuendos regarding “where our money is spent,” that tens of thousands of dollars was spent on full-page issues advocacy advertising in the Washington Times itself.

A year ago, people called us racists and vigilantes. We have overcome those falsehoods with an organizational performance of diligence, responsibility and excellent stewardship of the resources entrusted to us by our supporters and volunteers. Our careful spending and high standards in the field, combined with the generosity and faithfulness of our citizen patriot supporters, have allowed us to grow rapidly and effectively, consistent with our mission. This has been accomplished, in part, by aggressive advertising and outreach to people across the country, putting a spotlight on the state of lawlessness at our wide-open borders which our government continues to tolerate......."[snip]

".... The leadership of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps and its officers continue to have full faith and confidence in American Caging, Inc., who acts as our comptroller, and in our other accountability and legal professionals..........."

You can prove that none of these former minutemen have an axe to grind and they were all fired because of asking questions about the finances?

I can "prove" just as much as you can. I guess we'll have to see who is right, huh? Frankly, it's not looking that good for Simcox's side.

BTW, your statement also describes hundreds of former FReepers.

If I donated to FR and showed up here one day and it was gone, I'd want to know where the money went, wouldn't you?

I can SEE FR; where's the fence?

And I also know how many power structure wannabee former members level attacks at JimRob.

But we are here, posting on FR, right?

And when asked, Jim has been much more forthcoming about his finances than Simcox has.

Where's the fence?

Yes, that's what they are talking about.

And if you go back through one very vocal proponent of Simcox, you will find that he/she has not posted on any immigration thread until he/she discovered the link between Keyes and Simcox and now that poster is on every Simcox bashing thread.

That's an agenda!

Yep, and as I told another poster, ping me November 16th.

No, it's the nature of these things to come and go.

I can SEE FR; where's the fence?

It's on the border between the US and Mexico; maybe you should visit some time.

Yeah, I've seen picutures of it. Barbed wire!

Yeah, and if you go back through you'll find one very vocal defender of Simcox who is making money on Simcox's little fence.

It's all about mailing lists and the selling thereof.

As far as I know, Jim Robinson's never sold MY email address to anybody.

And I'm sure you blam Simcox, even though it was the ranch owner that forbid Simcox from building the fence he wanted.

So you're saying one ranch owner brought Simcox's big project to its knees?

Tell that to somebody who doesn't know better.

No, I'm saying the first fence built was not want Simcox wanted, it's what the ranch owner wanted.

Several posters on these threads blame Simcox for not building an Israeli style fence when he could not have. The choice was not his on that land.

He's got plans for 2 or 3 more segments on different ranches. From what I hears, at least one ranch owner has agreed to let Simcox build the fence he wants.

Are you saying that the fence is only on ONE RANCH?

That's even worse than I thought.

It stated on one ranch. It's going to be on many ranches.

The first fence was build on a ranch, where the owner said they could only build a barbed wire fences. Some of the other areas were delayed do to court actions, which I believe have been resolved, for now.

I know he's going to start a new fence in August and I believe that's the second fence, but I'm not 100% certain.

Well, I know this is surely a dumb question, but why didn't he find a rancher who would have let him put up the kind of fence he wanted to put up?

DUH.

I think, but not 100% certain, that ranch was one of the ones delayed by legal action.

At a minimum, he's trying. I don't see the Feds or anyone else down there trying to do anything.

Howlin, these folks are amateurs.

Their border watch was very successful for being run by amateurs. But building something tends to be much more complicated, since local and county governments get involved. Cochise County did jerk them around for a couple of months, for example.

If they do not build fence this fall, I will join your criticism (unless there is clearly documented government obstruction - and I would not put it past liberal organizations to file environmental lawsuits, which IMO will be the primary obstacle to any border barrier, whether it is privately or publicly built.)

But the obstacles Simcox has faced so far are reasonable to explain.

Are you missing my question?

Did he only pick ONE ranch?

Was he required by law to start at THAT ranch?

And if not, why not pick somebody who would let him put up the kind of fence he said he was going to put up -- and furnished pictures of?

American Caging speaks lol. Maureen Otis has given a statement saying that the Minuteman Civil Defense Corp is great and every thing is on board. In fact she has been giving them legal representation. Uh oh.

How come this statement does not feel me with security and good feelings. I am wondering with the current state of affairs at American Caging if she had to go through her purse to find some pocket change to fax this letter from the local Kinkos.

I made it clear up the thread I am NOT talking about the Minutemen. I admire what they have done, whether I agree with them or not. I'm not sure what they are doing will help, but at least they are putting their money where their mouth is.

I'm talking specifically about Simcox (and the entities that are involved in "collecting" his money).

And I just have an awful feeling he's an opportunist (along with others) who will use this issue to make themselves and their pals some money and will reappear when the next big "issue" comes along.

And until Simcox submits financials, that is a fair concern.

There have been valid reasons for delays in building the fences in question. I will wait to see what happens over the longer run there - there are a lot of wildcards, such as enviro lawsuits, that could still come into play.

But Simcox had better damn well meet the November 15th deadline. Until then, I will withhold judgement.

I have heard that his 501C3 has been held up with no explanation, by the Feds. Would you know anything about this?

You do recall the President called them "vigilantes" when he was in Tucson in March 05. They have a reason not to disclose information about their organization. When a standing President misrepresents your group you kind of expect the continual sliming. That does not bode well for openness and transparency.

Do you think that Simcox and company are such complete tools that Bush could sucker them into this PR debacle by calling them vigilantes over a year ago?
