Mel Gibson apologizes for DUI arrest
LOS ANGELES - Mel Gibson issued a lengthy statement Saturday apologizing for his drunk driving arrest and saying he has battled alcoholism throughout his life.
Gibson also apologized for what he said were "despicable" statements he made to the deputies who arrested him early Friday morning on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested," he said in a statement issued by his publicist. "I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse."
Publicist Alan Nierob declined to elaborate beyond the statement.
Gibson, 50, was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol after deputies stopped his 2006 Lexus LS 430 for speeding. Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said deputies clocked him doing 87 mph in a 45 mph zone.
A breath test indicated Gibson's blood-alcohol level was 0.12 percent, Whitmore said. The legal limit in California is 0.08 percent.
The actor was released early Friday after posting $5,000 bail.
Mel's words or his publicist's words?
Already posted.
We should get as much of an admission out of one of the Kennedys when THEY get pulled over and get combative with the arresting officer.
Where?
It sounds like Gibson has a demon to conquer. It doesn't sound like he is blaming anyone but himself. That is responsibility in action.

Indeed it is. Gibson knows that he messed up, and he isn't trying to hide anything, and he didn't show up in a neck collar, or blame his screwup on anything but his own bad behavior.
I don't approve or condone what Gibson did, but he keeps my respect for stepping up and admitting it without excuses.
He needs prayer. He'll have mine.
This is pathetic. You're supposed to hire a team of lawyers and PR flacks to deny everything, make excuses, shift blame, and denounce the cops for setting you up. Has this man learned nothing from his long contact with Democrats in Hollywood?
So now he doesn't hate Jews?
Have you seen Mel's mugshot from the arrest - He looks like a young Saddam Hussein. No kidding.
The problem is that booze tends to bring out one's true nature. The guy's id, his instinctual reflective beliefs and attitude, is a not a pretty picture, and to leash it, the guy needs to take up jogging or something in lieu of booze. That is my best advice.
From what I heard some of those "despicable" comments he made might have been anti-semetic. If that turns out to be true the MSM is going to rake him over the coals over this...only because he directed "Passion of the Christ".
Otherwise anti-semitism pretty much gets a free pass from the MSM these days
Then, there is Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Hitlery Clinton, etc.

Unfortunately for Mel the arrest is on audiotape according to TMZ.com. Mel was abusive to the officers calling a female one "sugar tits" guaranteeing they would sabotage their superior's attempts to cover this all up.
Can you reprint those anti-semetic comments here, for those of us who have not heard them?
Claim the ambien defense Mel!!!!
After the anti-Christian smear campaign conducted by some Jewish organizations, he is not wholly in the wrong. But he sure missed a chance to turn the other cheek.
I don't know if he actually did...just saw it mentioned in an ealier FR post: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1674355/posts
