Marine Sniper - Damn Good ReadThere have been many Marines. There have been many marksmen. But there has only been one Sergeant Carlos Hathcock. A legend in the Marine ranks, Hathcock stalked the Viet Cong behind enemy lines-on their own ground. And each time he emerged from the jungle having done his duty. His record is one of the finest in military history, with 93 confirmed kills.

The only problem with that theory (not saying that you are necessarily wrong about him having a selection of weaponry) is that I know several people who use the 5.56 (or as civilians call it the .223) to shoot everything from targets to prarie dogs and groundhogs at much farther than 250 yds with regularity.

Your nobility and regard for human life as created by God is noted. Unfortunately those souls twisted by Satan/Allah, programmed to kill all those who don't believe as they do, are best sent back to God as soon as possible. The world owes a debt to our armed forces for doing that as efficiently as possible (you'll never find them using women and children as human shields).

Why is this guy still a Lance after two tours in the bad lands? Doesn't seem right.

Stress of battle, responsibility to mission parameters, targets potentially able to shoot back...

I would agree with that. They probably jumped up and looked around frantically, as soon as they knew they were being hit.

IMO Lance is the best rank to have. (Maybe that's just because I was one...)

Handled M-16s during VN. Back then, troops had to put all their faith in them per regulation. The M-14 was infinitely superior. Development of a new assault weapon should have gone in that direction.
Should'd, would'd, could'd.
That was then. glad to hear the M-16 has been improved but if I had my druthers.....it'd be the M1-A1.

It just appears to me that this may be a case of a guy's skills holding him back in rank.

They were slugs.
They heard the report of the first round one second after it was fired (sound=1000fps). They didn't even follow the 4-second rule, LOL. Gyrene done good, to be sure, but the moozies helped him out......maybe former "Republican Guard"?
To: Riley
LOL
I told my son when he joined the Corps -
The Marines worship at the altar of markmanship. Two things go with you when you ship to a new unit - your PT score and how well you shoot....not much else matters for an 0311.
