Roberts and Alito Misled Us

I have had the honor of serving on the Senate Judiciary Committee for 43 years, during which I've participated in confirmation hearings for every one of the justices who now sit on the Supreme Court. Over that time, my colleagues and I have asked probing questions and listened attentively to substantive responses. Because we were able to learn a great deal about the nominees from those hearings, the Senate has rarely voted along party lines. I voted, for example, for three of President Ronald Reagan's five Supreme Court nominees...
But the careful, bipartisan process of years past -- like so many checks and balances rooted in our Constitution -- has been badly broken by the current Bush administration. The result has been the confirmation of two justices, John G. Roberts Jr. and Samuel A. Alito Jr., whose voting record on the court reflects not the neutral, modest judicial philosophy they promised the Judiciary Committee, but an activist's embrace of the administration's political and ideological agenda.

Does the article go on to call for the resignation of Ginsberg? No? Drink a cold one, Teddy.

All he's doing is setting the stage for a fight over the next nominee.

But the careful, bipartisan process of years past -- like so many checks and balances rooted in our Constitution -- has been badly broken by the current Bush administration. Dear Senator Kennedy,
How has a Senate process been broken by anyone in the Executive branch? The last time I looked at the Constitution the Senate made its own rules which were not influenced by the Executive. Maybe you're confused about which is which? Or, perhaps, you just can't admit that partisanship, along with many other things, has nothing to do with the Bush administration.
You remember President Bush, don't you? I seem to remember he invited you to the White House to watch a movie, and help you get your bloated education bill passed?
Shalom.

Teddy is hoping the political winds will start to blow in the other direction so that his party can make the next nomination the mother of all battles without getting his butt kicked. Hussein made the same mistake, but like Ted he survived the first round and still thinks he'll survive the second.

LOL! I will admit upon seeing the title of the thread I was ready to come pound some freeper heads into the sand.
Now I am doing the happy dance!
To: BRUMama
I'm sure Karl Rove was behind this deceit somehow. Imagine a conservative president nominating conservative justices! Teddy is so upset, he's even thinking of showing up sober once a week!

These guys are so full of it.
The libs savaged Alito and Roberts. Now they said they were mislead?
What part of "stupid" do they not understand?

This is a terrible thing for Mr. Kennedy. He may be driven into the arms of alcoholism. I feel so sorry for him.

>Almost sounds like a pre-emptive attack upon a possible upcoming USSC nomination.
Exactly.
It is also part of the ongoing hate-Bush Democrat Drumbeat.
Realize that Teddy didn't write one word of this. One of his far-left liberal staffers, or perhaps one of his professorial type friends did.
The main thing here is that Teddy thinks that Roberts is out of the mainstream of American political, moral and legal thought. This editorial is simply Teddy waving this red and black flag and shouting ,See, I'm Still A Radical!"
There is along range problem however. This is a perfect example of the "big lie" concept. Dems are working hard to create a massive Congressional shift in 2006 and the defect in 2008, with Hillary as the leading nag.
This is serious. It threatens the very existence of the Republic.

Roberts and Alito Misled Us Is Teddy drinking again? Teddy led the first even filibuster against Alito and vote against them. Supreme Court nominees have been partisan fights since Teddy has been in office. If anyone has elevated these fights into being even more partisan, Teddy is tops on the list.

It's a real shame that his family no longer lobotomizes it's members that embarrass them.
