HIZBOLLAH POLITICIANS AGREE TO PEACE PACKAGE
Associated Press, Yahoo News ^ | July 29, 2006 | SAM F. GHATTAS

BEIRUT, Lebanon - Hezbollah politicians, while expressing reservations, have joined their critics in the government in agreeing to a peace package that includes strengthening an international force in south Lebanon and disarming the guerrillas, the government said.

The agreement — reached after a heated six-hour Cabinet meeting — was the first time that Hezbollah has signed onto a proposal for ending the crisis that includes the deploying of international forces.

The package falls short of American and Israeli demands in that it calls for an immediate cease-fire before working out details of a force and includes other conditions.

But European Union officials said Friday the proposals form a basis for an agreement, increasing the pressure on the United States to call for a cease-fire.

President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair said Friday they too want an international force dispatched quickly to the Mideast but said any plan to end the fighting — to have a lasting effect — must address long-running regional disputes.

By signing onto the peace proposals, Hezbollah gave Western-backed Prime Minister Fuad Saniora a boost in future negotiations.

Going into Thursday night's Cabinet session, Hezbollah's two ministers expressed deep reservations about the force and its mandate, fearing it could turn against their guerrillas.

"Will the international force be a deterrent one and used against who?" officials who attended the Cabinet meeting said in summing up Hezbollah cabinet ministers concerns. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the debate.

But afterward, Information Minister Ghazi Aridi announced that the package had been agreed on by consensus in a rare show of unity by a divided administration.

Hezbollah will never disarm voluntarily. If you believe that, wait til you see pigs fly.

Which means they are getting their butts kicked and are trying to stop the war before it totally destroys Hizbollah.

This means they're getting desperate. Israel needs to keep it up.

If Hezbullocks says it is going to "disarm", all that means is that those terrorists are going to put on Syrian or Iranian military uniforms and cease being 'Hezbollah' while they keep right on firing them rockets.

This is posturing, plain and simple. It means nothing.

Israel should go for broke, lob two nukes, one on Damascus, and one on Tehran, and then pose the question,

"CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?"

"Which means they are getting their butts kicked and are trying to stop the war before it totally destroys Hizbollah."

Given the "Gravitos" of this situation, I think we'll need at least six or seven days to consider lispbollah's proposal. Hopefully, by then it will become a non-issue.

I agree. Especially whenm they used a rocket bomb launcher that leaves a visible trail back to the launch source, ROFLMAO, you KNOW they are using the last of what weaponry they have left. It took the Israelis what ... 2 minutes to take that rocket launcher out? Apparently, these launchers are expendable as a bic lighter! lol

YIKES! Desperate terrorists do desperate things...last I thought this over.... I think we are getting closer to a necessary cease fire. There reaches a point where pushing the enemy really does lead to more danger, more hate and more trouble.... I think it is crease fire time for sure.... Both sides need to face some form of accountability regime, that monitors acts and words of hatred and instigation that, if left unchecked, will fuel more hatred and rekindle the fighting.

And why? Why not allow Israel to punish Hezbollah more, to forge a larger security area to protect its citizens, and to assert its control over the ones they consider responsible for the current fighting?

Because this is about achieving the long term objectives of peace, security and understanding. This is about stopping the killing. This is about returning to a peaceful, daily routine of commerce and life. That may or may not be possible; but one thing is almost certain: continued bloodshed will build the animosity and hatred among the Arabs already standing against Israel, and may only serve to gain allies and fighters for Hezbollah.

Talk of lobbing around nukes is irresponsible. One can't even say "bomb" in airline check in. Why does anyone think good can come of talking "lobbing around nukes?"

Sounds like terror to me....

So a few guys in Beirut without the guns have agreed to have no guns. Oh yeah that really works. NOT.

Ceasefire is after Nasrallah surrenders himself to Israel and is in jail or Israeli soldiers are sipping tea in Damascas.

Hmmm Didnt they have peacekeepers on the border when this started? Didnt the UN have 1559 in place? Whats the difference between the new force and the old and who keeps track of who is keeping track?

Then Israel must destroy them all. Period.

Short of unconditional surrender, where the fighters of Hezbollah turn themselves in and Mr. Nasrallah agrees to be exhibited to the public in a cage for his crimes, I don't think that a ceasefire can truly bring peace.

Peace will come here when the enemy is totally vanquished.

Before any discussion of a new peacekeeping force begins, it must be decided what that force's mandate will be. If any force is to be successful, it must be tailored to its mandate and not the other way around.

Who would monitor "words of hatred" and how would they do it? What would they do if they heard some?

And why? Why not allow Israel to punish Hezbollah more, to forge a larger security area to protect its citizens, and to assert its control over the ones they consider responsible for the current fighting?

The goal is not to punish Hezballah. It is to destroy it. You don't "punish" terrorists.

The hatred is there. You aren't going to make that go away by stopping the assault. Ask the Saudis, the Jordanians, the Lebanese, the Syrians... Isreal has tried to "live and let live" with these regimes for decades, and these countries have hardly grown close to Israel. I wish you were right, but you aren't.
