It is an old DC-10 with a new cockpit. Kind of like taking a Chrysler K car and putting a new Mercedes interior in it and calling it a Mercedes

Exactly the same thing with the B737-300 (to 500) series. I have the same suspicion about wing-lets put on the older wings not designed for it. The enhancement may be more visual than anything else.., LOL.

Yeah like the 727-100/200's I have seen with winglets LOL.

Or back to the car analogy, I was thinking more like the huge multi-winged spoilers you see on the back of the Dodge Neon sized cars, it probably takes 10 mph OFF the top end! But they FEEL AND LOOK FAST. I guess thats what counts ;)

LOL, I have this image of a long drawn out escapade ending up with a mall piece that you step out of a little bit mused up but unharmed.

That reminds of an incident I read on the F4 at the WPAF museum. The F4 was the only airplane in the entire world to have ever made a gear up takeoff.

He was coming in hot on an emergency landing and the aircraft was veering off into a culvert. Fortunately in this case he still had the wing tanks on the wing and he was skidding on those. So he tapped full burner again and got enough altitude for him the co-pilot to punch out.
