Keeping the trust is the first order (Minutemen-Simcox)
Jewish World Review ^ | July 28, 2006 | Wesley Pruden

Posted on 07/28/2006 3:05:06 AM PDT by Anti-Bubba182

The first thing a Minuteman has to learn is to keep his powder dry. The bigger the powder magazine, the bigger the risk of getting it all wet.

This is the lesson that Chris Simcox, the president of the volunteers on the border, who have almost single-handedly aroused the nation's conscience about the tide of illegal immigration, seems to have missed in basic training.

The "powder" is the hundreds of thousands of dollars that Americans have contributed to the Minutemen, who have been exceedingly helpful to the U.S. Border Patrol. The careful, rigorous reporting of Jerry Seper in The Washington Times reveals that the Minutemen management has not made its records of fundraising and finances public in more than a year, raising the hackles and suspicions of several top Simcox aides. Some of them have resigned, protesting the loose management of the money...."[snip]

"... All the more reason that Chris Simcox and his lieutenants must account for the money and explain what the Declaration Alliance, the grandly named political public-relations firm in Herndon, has done with the money it has collected and disbursed in the name of the Minutemen. The Declaration Alliance is the creation of Alan Keyes, the smooth-talking conservative activist and sometime pol, and is meant to provide mass mailings, public relations and "a fully accredited and independent audit." So far no one in the Minutemen management has said how much has been paid to the Declaration Alliance, and what the Minutemen got for the money...."

How long are we going to have to wait for disclosure of the GAO audit?

Go to their website

All the more reason that Chris Simcox and his lieutenants must account for the money and explain what the Declaration Alliance, the grandly named political public-relations firm in Herndon, has done with the money it has collected and disbursed in the name of the Minutemen.

All of this, according to Mr. Simcox, will be done at the legally required time in th legally required manner.

You are a hypocrite.

FedGov drops 5 Billion in 3 months and not a peep from you.
No asking for accounting.

One volunteer organization has raised up to 1.6 Mil over 3 years and you want a proctological exam.

I will love to see your posts Tuesday when they report there are not 6K on the border. And that the bulk of the troops are at home station in training and in support roles.

I guess that's a double standard you hold.

Open the books.

Once again for the comprehension impaired.

The MMDC has stated over and over again that they will 'open' their books at the legally required time in the legally required manner.

Nobody's trying to take down anybody.

Piffle, stuff, and nonsense.

You don't like these guys, you disagree with their goals, and would like nothing better than to see them fail.

It's pretty pathetic you can't be at least be honest about that much.

Whose website. There is no GAO audit until someone from congress requests it or there are numerous calls to the fraud line. Otherwise the guard will be back home if they call the deployment off prior to or after the elections.

Baloney. You are building strawmen. There is congressional oversight of how the money is spent. You are in way over your head with this. The HsD has spent 5.9 billion dollars this year on border security. It is going to be increased next year. The budgets are publicly available as well as what the money is spent on. That is a far cry from Simcox and Keys stalling around praying that this will blow over.

Homeland Security is not DoD.

They wont know how much is spent until the funding line for the deployment is at the end of the FY - 1 October.

NG is DoD, not Homeland Security.

It's not a strawman. Show me how much the US Govt is paying the NG, and what are they doing?

What the hell are you talking about? The states pay the national guard.

DoD pays the states. Their paycheck is cut by DoD.

No, the states pay for their own national guard. I am not going to play this game you. You think you are being cute but you are just showing your ignorance.

Up to 6,000 troops participating in Operation Jump Start are expected to be performing duty along the 1,300-mile border from Texas to California by Aug. 1. The $770-million operation in support of Customs and Border Protection could continue for up to two years.

The states pay for the full time reservists. They do not pay when they go to Iraq or Overseas or participate on a DoD mission.

The states partially fund the Guard by providing facilities, and utilities.

They do not write the paycheck; unless they are full time reserve technicians and then it's a fraction of what the reserve pays.

Regular Guard troops are not full time reservists.

I was a guard member. The paycheck came directly from DFAS, not from the state.

The Army National Guard (ARNG) is one component of The Army (which consists of the Active Army, the Army National Guard and the Army Reserves.) The Army National Guard is composed primarily of traditional Guardsmen -- civilians who serve their country, state and community on a part-time basis (usually one weekend each month and two weeks during the summer.) Each state, territory and the District of Columbia has its own National Guard, as provided for by the Constitution of the United States
