Tehran, Iran--Surrounded by yellow Hezbollah flags, more than 60 Iranian volunteers set off Wednesday to join what they called a holy war against Israeli forces in Lebanon. The group--ranging from teenagers to grandfathers--plans to join about 200 other volunteers on the way to the Turkish border, which they hope to cross Thursday. They plan to reach Lebanon via Syria over the weekend.
Iran says it will not send regular forces to aid Hezbollah, but apparently it will not attempt to stop volunteer guerrillas. Iran and Syria are Hezbollah's main sponsors.
Organizers said the volunteers were not carrying weapons, and it was not clear whether Turkey would let them pass.
Newt was right...this *IS* World War III.
Groups are already leaving SE Asia as well
"Newt is right, this is WWIII."
No, I think this is the Spanish Civil War of the 1930's, when Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia got to test lots of weapons and tactics on hapless Spaniards. Also many volunteers from the US, England, and other countries. Let us hope this does NOT degenerate into WWIII.
Do you have a link for the article?
I wonder how many of them just want to escape Iran?

Hi Ho Hi Ho
It's off to die I go
Hi Ho Hi Ho
Meat on the table.
Man, you /really/ gotta be pathetic when you're fighting to the death against Jews and all you can manage to drag up is sixty folks, half of whom wouldn't normally be considered fit for conscription.
A thousand times that number can die in a moderate earthquake. I'm really starting to wonder just how much it would really take to push over the regime of Iran. How about we blow up their oil spigots and see what happens in six months.

Good post, but one now wonders whether the Euros might not admire such crossings of the Turkish border to quash the Jooos.
I hope they didn't waste their money for the extra insurance on the rental truck. I don't think insurers pay off when the truck is blown to smithereens by an Israeli missile.
Having just read 4 of the articles posted in the comment a few boxes above yours, I would say that 60/200 is only the first wave. The hard line student group sponsoring this says they plan to recruit lots more. Recruitment is also going on in Basra, Iraq. Another commentor says there is recruitment taking place in SE Asia. All thes is another parallel with the Spanish Civil War.
I hope they all cross. Israel can kill them all, then the sane people left in Iran can depose their govt.
These guys are just cannon fodder. We don't know about the dangerous ones.
