If anyone thinks Reagan was loved for his speechwriters, they are either a speechwriter, or mistaken. Same with Bush. It is their inherent goodness and moral clarity, their authentic love for America which binds them to us. It isn't fancy words, though Reagan could use them (as Bush can too at times). President Bush, on the rubble of the WTC, was at his best. Who could have dreamt better words than those he spoke? ...the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!"
