The international talks in Rome, which broke up without agreement on a ceasefire call, gave Israel "authorization" to press its offensive in Lebanon, Justice Minister Haim Ramon said Thursday.

"Yesterday in Rome we have in effect obtained the authorization to continue our operations until Hezbollah is no longer present in southern Lebanon," Ramon told army radio.

He was speaking ahead of a cabinet meeting that is due to decide whether to expand the offensive, now in its 16th day.

Why does a sovereign nation need "authorization" from other nations to destroy a terrorist group that has launched thousands of rockets at it?

Israel needs to learn how to tell the rest of the world to screw itself, beginning with the UN and most of Europe.

Its a dog and pony show. The governments need to act like they are concerned, but in the end, they want to see Hezbollah get its ass kicked.

All these western EU governments follow the same policy they always do. They don't have to stick their necks out for Israel, because they know the US always will. So publically they don't have to take a stand.

Obviously, Israel doesn't need "authorization" from any other nation to defend itself. I think the term Minister Ramon was looking for is "tacit approval".
