Yesterday when Rush was discussing the "Military Experts" rantings about the Israel-Hizbollah war one thing was obviously missing. None of the "Experts" have given any thought at all to the Strategic picture and how Lebanon fits in the larger War on Islamic Fascism.
Israel should be going for the long game, a solution to this decade long cancer NOT a drama queen headline breeding short term military blitz. It would be utterly stupid for Israel to prune back Hizbollah when it is in both their's, and the the NATO powers, interests to completely eject Iran's front group Hizbollah from the Mediterranean Littoral.
All the plans advanced by self styled "Experts" would accomplish is a lot of dead Jews for a short term "Quick fix". Hizbollah would simply bleed the Israelis while pulling back into sanctuary areas in Syria and northern Lebanon. Then when the Israelis could no longer stand the blood and treasure long term occupation was costing them, Hizbollah would simply flow back into the same positions they hold now. And 5 years from now the Israelis would face the same crises in Lebanon. Basically all the "Experts" advocate is that Israel repeat the 1982 war now in 2006.
Like the US in Iraq, Israel should go for a long term FIX that uproots Hizbollah and creates a viable Lebanese Govt that can police its own territory.
That maybe why the Israelis have indicated interested in a NATO force to do in Lebanon what it is currently doing in Afghanistan. Suppress the terrorist groups while the Lebanese build a viable nation state that can provide long term stability.
For Israel, and the West, that outcome would be a durable strategic victory in what will be a very long war
I don't trust Milbank. He's a dem hack journalist. If it was Steele, don't know if and how what he said has been twisted by Milbank. Never forget Dems don't like black conservatives.
If Steele feels that way, then he needs to stop the BS and put a D next to his name then.
I've never heard one non-conservative comment out of Steele till now.
Apparently Mr. Steele is crying to Dana Milbank and a few of his close Beltway reporters how the President and Iraq is hurting his election chances. Instead of the support for the President I've heard him express on Hannity etc. he's dug out the knife. At times like this I really feel ashamed of some of our folks...
Thanks!
Alright, If Milbank is lying that's altogether possible. But if Steele is lying...like I said, I'm enough of a pragmatist to realize we need to keep the Majority, but I'm REALLY disappointed.
Do you think it's just to get the vote? Look at Bloomberg. He talks, walks and thinks like a demorat, but has an R after his name so he didn't have to run in a dem primary in NY.
It may not be Steele. So far it's speculation.
Never mind, Rush just confirmed it.
I lived in Maryland for a few years and voted for Steele. I shook his hand in a 4th of July parade. I like Steele. Unfortunately, he is quite surrounded by blood thirsty sharks. He is playing politics. Normally, I would be dissappointed in his tactic. But consider his strategy if his approach appeals to constituents in the state. As the sole conservative in the state, he needs some votes to gain a republican seat in a blue state. I would support this tactic if it wins votes and gets him a senate seat. I would also approve of this approach in blue states like New York.
Shoot. Sounds like it's true. Dam.
He may think this is going to help his candidacy, but I'm afraid he's sorely mistaken.
Not a Dem state.
A far left kook fringe state.
2004 my Bush signs were trashed on a daily basis. Smeared with dog sh!t. Or outright stolen.
I am embarassed to be a Republican in Maryland. Not because I am embarassed about my own political attitudes, but by the abyssmal performance of party controllers in this state.
They don't even have the guts to put up an opponent in some areas, because they are conceding defeat before the election.
By the way, the Republican party will not get a penny from me as long as I live here.
This is confirming my fear that he's not that bright. Remember his introduction of Ehrlich in 2002? "We make history tonight. Maryland's traffic problems end tonight". I can still feel the stunned look on my face when he said that doozey.
