Fox News Calls Olbermann 'Over the Line'
AP via My Way News ^ | July 25, 2006 | Beth Harris

Fox News Channel chairman and CEO Roger Ailes responded to Keith Olbermann's latest critical volley against Bill O'Reilly on Monday, saying the MSNBC host's behavior "is over the line."

Ailes, appearing Monday at the summer meeting of the Television Critics Association, was referring to a weekend incident at the gathering in which Olbermann whipped out a mask of O'Reilly and gave a Nazi salute.

Ailes said Olbermann picks on Fox's O'Reilly to boost his ratings.

"Clearly he has no viewers except those he gets when he attacks Fox News," Ailes said.

Of Saturday's incident, Ailes said, "I really think that's over the line."

During his "Countdown" show on MSNBC, Olbermann regularly tweaks O'Reilly. Olbermann has named O'Reilly his "Worst Person in the World" at least 15 times. The nightly "award" is Olbermann's way of criticizing what he deems bad behavior.

O'Reilly has referred to Olbermann - although not by name - as a "notorious smear merchant" and pointed out the low ratings for "Countdown."

"The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox is No. 1 in the cable TV news ratings. Olbermann generally runs third in the same time slot.

Also Monday, Ailes said Fox will mark its 10th anniversary with a "Thank You America" tour this fall. Shows fronted by O'Reilly, Shepard Smith, Greta Van Susteren, Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes, and Neil Cavuto will do live versions of their shows from 10 cities around the country, including Boston, Chicago, Dallas and San Diego.

This is the sort of behavior that typically causes loved ones to make earnest requests to "seek professional help". In fact, people observing this kind of behavior are concerned well before this point.

I really wish Ailes had answered any questions about Olbermann with either "no comment" or "who?" It would drive Olbermann nutty. It eats away at his ego that he, the great Keith Olbermann, is not the number one watched person on all of TV. Ignoring him would just be a cherry on top of the cake.

End of story.

Good. That means Shep is coming back from Israel. He'll do less damage here on a show tour than he's doing in his coverage in the war zone.

And in the Cable News ratings OvertLiar gets maybe 1/3 as many viewers as the REPEAT broadcast of O'Reilly. In fact while MSNBC is on the bottom of the networks for ratings, Overtliar manages to come in only 4th in ranking the MSNBC shows by ratings.

So all of Overtliars theatics have managed to do is put him at the bottoms of the ratings list. One has to wonder why MSNBC tolerates such money losing incompetence in their talking heads like Overliar.

"The nightly "award" is Olbermann's way of criticizing what he deems bad behavior."

So putting on an O'Reilly mask and giving the "zieg heil!" is GOOD behavior? Eh, what do you expect from a brainless, talentless jock-wannabe.

I thought that Olbermann's antics were childish and unprofessional. It just a matter of time before MSNBC gets tired of Olbermann's act and low ratings and gets rid of him.

He`s had a bang against the head, literally..(from Wikipedia)

"Damaged depth perception in 1980 by rushing to catch a subway car at New York City’s Shea Stadium and slamming his head into the top of the door frame."

..and it seems his mother has that habit too...

"New York Yankees second baseman Chuck Knoblauch accidentally hit Olbermann’s mother in the head during a botched play at Yankee Stadium in 1998. Bill Scheft of ESPN the Magazine commented, “I think I speak for the whole ESPN family and sports fans everywhere when I say, ‘Wrong Olbermann.’”

Is it possible Mom droped him on his head when he was a kid as well? I think so.

Wow. That little stunt is indeed demented. It's the sort of thing that one expects from a straggler at an A.N.S.W.E.R. rally, not from someone who has a job at a large company.

I wonder if Olbermann's old brain injury - which was quite severe - is catching up with him.

Ouch..that just brought back a terrible memory for me. I was running to catch a subway in 1986. I was looking for a car that didn't have many people (you New Yorker will know what I'm talking about), and I was stopped by one of the steel girders at every subway station. I really should have died. My face was black and blue and I couldn't go to work for two days.

Here's a strange side story...for a week or so after, when I went out into the city, people would come up to me and ask me if I needed help (they assumed some man had beaten me up). I guess that's good...or bad...as the case may be.

Thanks for your comment about Shep - I've been totally disgusted by his statements. I used to really like his show, but after his drama-queen performance during Katrina he's become a royal jerk!

Take of Olbermann's glasses, put on a mustache and you've got Groucho Marx.

Daaamn! You must have looked nasty! Yeah, those subways are dangerous. People fall on the tracks or get messed up the cars all the time. My father use to be a cop in the emergency service in the 1970`s, and you don`t even want to hear his stories of that freggin` subway, you`d have nightmares for weeks. People getting messed up in everyway imaginable.

olberman's been pretty candid about his therapy. why would anyone watch a television program where a network gives a nutjob an hour and turns him loose to cover whatever interests him? apparently what interests him is a guy on another network who routinely kicks his ass. must be some type of OCD manifestation.

You really can't put Olbermann and Colmes in the same category. Yes, both are hopeless liberals who rant and rave. But Alan Colmes seems to be a decent and nice man, just deluded. Olbermann, OTOH, is just plain nasty as well as deluded.

I have tried to Oberman's show a few times but it is very boring. Sometimes he comes off as mean spirited.
