Two of President Bush's most loyal supporters in Congress yesterday asked him to request that more than $3.5 billion in "emergency" funding be spent immediately on securing the border -- rejecting the White House's assertion that enough is being done along the border. Republican Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and Jon Kyl of Arizona -- who have long shared Mr. Bush's view that immigration reform should include a guest-worker program as well as increased border security -- said "comprehensive" legislation is dead this year unless the federal government proves that it is serious about enforcing current immigration laws by spending billions along the border.

Kyl, in the past, has always been outspoken about US national security, border control, and enforcement. He has never wavered, or compromised about his message until recently .
I think (just a gut feeling, mind you), in recent times, has been getting heat from the "powers that be" in the GOP. Thus, a big part of his campaign war chest.
Does that excuse him? No.
He has an upcoming nasty battle in Nov. against a former DNC chair here in AZ, who is a vile, filthy snake. He is quietly running his campaign here in AZ; once the fall election season hits, all fangs will come out and he will try to lie about and slander Kyl every which way from Sunday.
I think the GOP has basically Kyl in their hip pocket, as opposed to his loyal constituents, who has supported him over the years.
Just my .02, and I'll take change.

Too bad she can't wade the rio grande.
and just what does Fox have on President Bush?
Perhaps they may be finally seeing the light (truth) or they are afraid or ashamed to admit that they continue to support Bush (on this issue) regardless of the fact that his position is misguided and misplaced.
Your right! I never was a strong supporter of the President but, after 9-11, he seemed like he had his act together. Supporting your President is a good thing.......not seeing when he's wrong is dangerous.
