That's my thought...

If Israel follows through, the Hez's are toast, and Syria/Ran lose MAJOR face, and a major client...

Hezbollah leader: Didn't expect such strong reaction to abductions

By Yuval Azoulay, Amos Harel, Yoav Stern, and News Agencies

BEIRUT, Lebanon - A senior Hezbollah official said Tuesday the guerrilla group did not expect Israel to react so strongly to its capture of two Israel Defense Forces soldiers on July 12.

Mahmoud Komati, the deputy chief of the Hezbollah politburo, also told The Associated Press that his group will not lay down arms.

"The truth is - let me say this clearly - we didn't even expect (this) response.... that (Israel) would exploit this operation for this big war against us," said Komati. Advertisement He said Hezbollah had expected "the usual, limited response" from Israel. In the past, he said, Israeli responses to Hezbollah actions included sending in commandos into Lebanon and kidnapping Hezbollah officials or briefly targeting specific Hezbollah strongholds in southern Lebanon. He said his group had anticipated there would be negotiations on the exchange of the soldiers with three Lebanese prisoners in Israeli jails, with Germany acting as a mediator as it did before.

Only in the form of air strikes on Iranian missle sites...
(And a few Western Syria Airfields and WMD storage ceters,, of course!)

The ISraeli's can handle Syria.
Remember, you are only seeing SMALL parts of the ISraeli military, and they have a knack for calling up and moving large units quietly....

In the event that no one else crossposted this item... Sorry, I don't have time to read through all of the posts from today:

Ancient Prayerbook found in Irish Bog

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1672039/posts

"Part of Psalm 83, a lament to God over other nations' attempts to wipe out Israel, is legible but the museum said the extent to which other Psalms or additional texts are preserved would only be determined by lengthy work by a team of experts."

Incredibly timely...

Folks,

I will give you a simple military strategy to help Israel. You will want to look at Google Map or a map of Lebanon that shows satellite imagery or fairly good detail.

Middle south of Lebanon (just west of town of Qaraaoun) there is a fairly sizable lake with a large damn that feeds the Litani River. As I understand Litani River is essential to survival in that part of Lebanon (fresh water, farming, etc.)

If river was flooding it would be a lot harder for Hez troops to retreat. If river was dry it would be difficult for ANYONE to live there and a DMZ would be established.

I guess they missed the fact elections took place and Merkel was elected. Changes the dynamic somewhat, I'd say. I really don't know how far she'd go in either direction, we're going to find out, but one thing I'm fairly confident in is that she wouldn't be as accomodating as the previous government.

Military Intelligence Chief: Syrian army now at its highest state of alert.

This popped up on Haaretz or JPost abouf 6 hours ago, highest DEFENSIVE alert. The IDF general quoted mentioned that accidents could happen and the story itself noted that Hezzies were trying to get rockets into the Syrian slope of the Golan.

Poke a dog to many times with a sharp stick, and he will bite. Looks like Hezbollah didn't learn that lesson.

Weapons and ordinance are heavy, usuallly travel by ship, not air. Remember the Iranian ship full-o-missiles we snagged just before OIF, headed for Israel?

I have been wondering about this. But defensive alert is one thing, offensive is another. If there are troops building on the borders, things will get interesting.

To be honest I hope that Syria doesn't do that.
