Questionable books (Minuteman-Simcox)
The Washington Times ^ | July 25, 2006 | Staff

As supporters of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, we were disheartened to read Jerry Seper's front-page article Thursday about questions and criticisms of President Chris Simcox's management of the organization. According to the article, the volunteer group has not made any financial statements or fundraising records public since April 2005 -- circumstances that have strained relations between Mr. Simcox and several of his top employees, some of whom have resigned in protest.

Mr. Simcox must resolve these problems quickly. Failure to do so would only encourage the organization's critics -- who have made no secret of their desire to see the Minuteman volunteers arrested for vigilantism. But more importantly, according to Mr. Simcox's estimate, Americans have donated $1.6 million to the corps because they believe in their mission to secure the southern border. In return, the least they should expect is transparency and the assurance that their donations went to help the volunteers in the field. But the truth is that no one except Mr. Simcox knows how much money has been donated and what it has been used for.

So far, Mr. Simcox has been unable to come up with a good explanation -- at least one that can be independently verified. And while he insists the money went to help field operations, workers at these locations tell a different story. For instance, Vern Kilburn, who resigned earlier this year as director of operations for the organization's northern Texas sector, told The Washington Times that only two checks for $1,000 came from Minuteman headquarters in October and that other directors across the country "are having similar problems." Some volunteers said that money promised by Mr. Simcox for food and supplies never arrived. "An awful lot of equipment I saw was donated," said Mike Gaddy,...."

57% to "expenses" is a fine way to make a living.

Being a grassroots kind of guy, no one wishes more than me that more money made its way through the pipeline to the grunts in the trenches.

But let's be real. Exactly how much of the money the RNC raises do you think makes it to actually helping beat Dems out in the precincts?

I mean, they gotta pay for that lavish office on Capitol Hill, you know...with staffers coming out of their ears. The last time I checked, their salaries were pretty generous up there...

How much of a cut do you think Diener or the myriad other fundraisers in DC make when they work for Bush or the RNC or Heritage or the NRA?

This line of attack by y'all is hypocrisy on parade...

Right or they will manufacture a isse when the money gets low.

Also, and I am going to do a thing on my blog about this but I keep getting distracted by Simcox. I am curious about some of these telemarketing firms that the ususal suspects are using. I suspect that in part they are hiring people to go into forums and leave cooments at blogs etc.

I also suspect they are paying bloggers off. In fact there is a Political outfit out of New Hampshire I am focusing on out of New Hampshire that is basically doing that. I am trying to find their Dem counterpart now

Thats how they get these "issues" going

The illustration does not show the accurate depiction of the fence that is being planned according to information that was provided to me.

The two 12' wide by 5' deep trenches are being eliminated and instead steel uprights will be installed with alternating 4' and 6' heights. These are vehicle barriers.

The trenches are being eliminated apparently due to cost, practicality and technological reasons. The cost was found to be $5,000 to $6,000 per 50 feet which is around $120 per linear foot. The vertical steel casing barriers are estimated at about $8 per foot. There was some concern about the difficulty in digging in a geological formation called caliche which is precipitated minerals that harden alluvial soils. There was also apparently some concern about cattle getting into the trenches. *( And concertina razor wire ).

There are at least six criteria determining the purpose of the fences. These are factors that are evaluated.

Backing away -

Do you have proof that Alan Keyes gets a salary from any of the organizations he sponsors?

Or are you just making it up as you go along, as has been your wont since you suddenly popped up here a few weeks ago?

Do you happen to have a list of "non-profit" groups being run out of the Diener offices in Lancaster? Please tell me you haven't worked for them, please.

No, I've never worked for them, and no, I don't have any kinds of lists to contribute to your opposition research against Simcox.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for parts of northern New Jersey until 8 p.m. Tuesday with temperatures reaching the mid-90s. Combined with humidity, temperatures could feel as high as 103 degrees. (AP Photo/Mel Evans)

It is going to be interesting to see if it is started in August or if they will find a need to reschedule for some reason.

I can't keep all the excuses straight.

Once we were told that it took planning, and the materials had to be ordered, and they were waiting on them to arrive. (You pretty much shot that one down after questioning why they would order expensive materials without even knowing if the county would approve design, etc.)

However, many people were led to believe that Israeli style fence was being built... there just weren't pics of it yet.

Then there were pics of a ~cattle fence~

Then the heat was a factor, the fence building needs to be delayed until cooler weather.

More ~cattle fencing~ pictures.

Then they realized it was so complicated, they needed a professional contrator, so they hired a lawyer in Pennsylvania.

I might be confused, but I think this is the spot on the timeline that Simcox & supporters said it wouldn't be a real fence, and everyone knew that. It would be a symbol, and the cause would be promoted because of that... fence.

Now the heat factor excuse is no longer operative.
As of this morning, an excited landowner named Hodges believes an Israeli style fence will be built on his property, beginning in August, because that is what the MCDC told him.

The truly sad part is that the rabid Simcox supporters keep trying to convince us that all this is logical and Simcox is a victim. That isn't conservatism... that is Clintonian.

Now I'm just waiting for the Simcox group to tell us the fence will be built in August, but Chris never specified which year.

Listen, this comment is a snide underhanded comment. I haven't insulted you and have tried to be as analytical in my approach to this situation as possible. Are you even following all of this? If Simcox had just said I am gathering millions to lobby Congress for better border control, there wouldn't really be people and reporters inquiring into his finances. Add that to the droves of people leaving the group and I conclude there is smoke there is fire. Just because someone has a website, direct mail operations and tells me they are going to do something for a cash donation doesn't mean I will swallow it hook, line and sinker. Something is wrong in all this. I saw some images of you down there, volunteering? Or were you paid? If you were paid in any way you have lost your objectivity in all of this. If I had been paid in any way from these folks I would step away and let the powers that be answer for themselves.

Listen, this comment is a snide underhanded comment.

It is all they have left.

EV, by the way, I have a full time job that is not connected to anything remotely political. I do not employ illegals, nor do I even know any. I am not for open borders, I'm actually for enforcement first. I do not belong to any political organizations, even the RNC. My opinions are my own, and I have never been asked to post on message boards to advance an agenda, much less been finacially compensated for it.

Can you say the same?

Thank you for your posts on this subject. A lot of you have done excellent research. I would simply like an accounting of the money.

And I believe Connie Hair is up to her eyeballs in this.

Of course. And you and your friends' recurring claim that I have is just one more example of your pack's basic dishonesty.

ok I am looking at the latest Declaration Foundation 990

Mary Lewis of Politechs got 40,500 for being Secretary
Mr Constastine Got 27,000 for being and officer

By the way Repsonse Unlimted in order to spread the word on The Declaration of Independence , which is the purpose of the foundation got 204,000 for there contribution to spread the word on John Hancock. Hold on I am buiding up to something

BY the way this was I believe for the year of 2003. I havent seen anything more recent

Now Mr keyes Declaration alliance lets go to that.

The last time they filed was in 2004 and that was action in 2003. I think this is important as you shall soon see

Now this is a hoot
Declaration Alliance received in public support about 1.7 millions dollars

They spent 1.3 million on their mission- That was mostly all in printing and postage. I suspect that was junk mail talking about Alan Keyes. But that is a side line to what I am getting at

Now Mary Lewis here gets 76,000 for sitting on the board
ANd the accountant Mr Constastine gets 28,000

Now there seems to be 27,000 dollar allocated to something called occupancy. I think this is office rent. However I find this strange since this is all occuring in Mr Constastines own office who is getting 50,000 dollars for his services. However I need to double check on this. Now this is where it gets interesting

I will be right back talking about the Keyes campaign and I if remember right who paid it off the campaign debt
