Why is this bad news? What do us non-Tennesean's need to know?

Corker seems okay from the looks of his website:

Corker's the former mayor of Chattanooga, and as such he has less of a track record on ideological issues than his two main primary opponents, Bryant and Hilleary. Both of them had good records in the U.S. House and their supporters don't trust a big city (by regional standards, it's the state's fourth largest city) mayor. Big city mayor's tend to be pork-friendly. I'm a Bryant supporter, but I think Corker or Hilleary would be fine.

Corker is okay and will be conservative enough. He is a much better politician than Hilleary and Bryant, but not as bona-fide a conservative. He is at least as conservative as Frist.

The best thing about him is he is well-suited to plaster Harold Ford. Bryant and Hilleary are not and if they were to win the pub primary it would be a nail-biter, IMHO. Corker will wipe the floor with Ford. He is supremely organized and well-positioned. He has raised alot of money and has spent his time the last couple of years organizing. He is a multi-millionaire who can write his own campaign a 1.5M check.

I will vote for Ed Bryant in the primary, but he will lose. But I will not have any problem voting for Corker in the general. The good news is that Corker has not poisoned himself to supporters of Hilleary and Bryant. The party will be united behind him.

Corker is a modern-day political playboy; he's buying each of his votes with innuendo and blank checks from his hefty bank account.

He will prove to be that spineless beast often found hiding between the yellow lines or flattened pointing toward the bushes on the high road of principle.

The lowly, "moderate conservative."

NO!!!! This is a travesty. I worked on the 21st Century Waterfront in Chattanooga and know much of his campaign staff. Furthermore, Corker "goes" to my church.

Put it this way. Corker was mayor for four years and the conservatives in Chattanooga were shocked when he announced he was running as a conservative Republican. Much of his funding actually comes from hardcore liberals in the area. Add in the fact that he owns much of Chattanooga and "transferred" his holdings to another prominent businessman. I guess it proves that politics are for the wealthy, and you can buy yourself a seat.

Congrats Tennessee. You've just given the state another Rhino that'll be impossible to get out of office.
