It also made me feel like a failure for my inability to understand this and provide him with some business training to operate his bakery successfully. It seemed that the more I began to understand, the more I needed to learn. Ahhh the never ending line of White guilt is parading in front of our very eyes once more.
Further more since when a Dairy Farmer can give a Baker advise as to how to run a business?
Me thinks this story is fabricated (albeit some threads of truth)to soften the American stance towards the Mexican invasion of our country.

And the dairy subsidies are in your bank account no doubt. We are going to get bucolic threads as riotous as Crevo/Civil War/Cooking threads? ;)

Maybe that's John and Nettie.
I guess down there they have the Guatemalans to do the work that The Mexican worker won't do. Probably depressed the wages so badly that Roberto had to come to the U.S. to feed his poor family. You see it's not the Mexicans fault, it's those damn Guatemalans.
When they legalize the millions of illegal immigrants here we will need another 20 or 30 additional million illegals because once a legal citizen, why should they want to do the jobs that current legal citizens won't do? The government wants to screw the American worker...These illegals will find that out if they ever become legal American workers,

"Teach us Spanish" Duh!!!! Why not teach THEM English. THIS is the most disgusting sentence in the article.
I guess that is what we all are going to have to do. Have someone teach US Spanish.

We now work less than 70 hours per week and [we] are more profitable than ever.
70 hour work week? I presume overtime is paid.
"We" refers to the owners of the farm. Who exactly do you expect to pay them overtime? The tooth fairy? "more profitable than ever" covers it if anything does - but without Mexican labor they were working more than 70 hours, and getting less money.
"Profit" is of course the difference between "revenue" and "expenses." Each dollar of savings in expenses is a dollar earned in profit. But in the typical business "profit" is much smaller than "expenses." That means that it doesn't make much of a percentage savings in "expenses" to double the profit - or even change a loss into a profit.
Which is probably how businessmen get tempted to act like Ebenezer Scrooge . . .

I've seen this sort of thing happen before. It's kind of a perverse 'Stockholm Syndrome' effect (Stockholm Syndrome is where a captive or abductee starts to empathize with their captors ala Patricia Hearst and the Symbionese Liberation Army)in which Anglos start to mimic and empathize with Latinos and their culture.
Nothing wrong with this except that the person afflicted throws all objectivity out the window and things like laws become second place to their enamoritization of all things Mexican.
My secretary went through this in the early 70's and was devastated when Immigration came through and captured a number of our workforce (her sorrow wasn't for everyone who was captured, just the one guy she was screwing), but the transformation was startling. She had her ears pierced, started dressing like a Latina, and started to speak barrio English. You couldn't even begin to criticize a Mexican in front of her.
The ex-wife came down with the disease early in childhood. Her father owned an interest in a large cattle operation in Sonora and she was hooked by the time she was 13. (Probably had something to do with with a little hanky-panky with her father's pilot when she was 15)even today, when she calls and the discussion turns to illegal immigration, she is mindless in her support for all things Mexican and is against any form of border enforcement.
Hell, maybe it's just the women I know.
