INDIANAPOLIS -- A 3-year-old boy was fatally injured when a floor-mounted mirror fell on him at an Indianapolis Wal-Mart.
Police said Christopher Antonio was apparently playing near the 5-foot-tall mirror in the children's section of the store Saturday evening when it fell at the store in the 3200 block of 86th Street.
The boy was with his 5-year-old sister and his mother. The mother told police she was about 5 feet away from her son when she heard a loud crash.
Police said it took two people to pull the mirror off the boy.
Nice that you can laugh about it. And that's some fancy dancing you're doing.
Where in that article does it say the child was climblimg on the mirror? Here's what it does say...

Please state where I told anyone they were a bad parent for not having their child magnetically attached to them at all times. I never said you were a bad parent.
You let your child walk a few feet away. Do you let your child fool around with objects that could fall & crush them? Such as a six foot high mirror (per the new info)? I doubt it, which is good. Still, a three year old is a bit smaller than a five year old & a five year old has better comprehension skills.
My neice is 15 years old and has never been home alone. I can certainly understand wanting to keep your kids safe, but at some point you have to let go a bit and give them the freedom to act in a responsible manner.
My oldest is 14 and my youngest is 8. Only this summer have I allowed the older one to babysit the younger one for VERY short periods of time. I'm a nervous wreck about it too.
I babysat an infant at 12 YO and 2 small children all summer at 14 YO. But I just cannot view my oldest son as responsible as I was.
ummm it says he stepped on the bumper part of the mirror... we still don't have a CLEAR picture of what happened...

What dancing? I said pullING and bangING deliberately. It's really easy not to notice a kid give a mirror a quick tug. That I didn't mention climbing was an oversight as I didn't think it was real easy for a kid to climb on a flat mirror.

The child was playing with the mirror which is unsafe. He wasn't being watched. The fact that this could have been prevented is even more heartbreaking. Amazing that you're so busy going after me that you'll excuse a parents lax attention. Stores aren't playgrounds and are inherently unsafe for very young children. They are not "childproofed" like a home. But you are more interested in maligning me than seeing the truth. Have at it. I won't address you again.
How fast do you push a cart?! You address the child with words while coming to a stop. If they don't listen by that time, they need a little more correction.
ulp.... if these are the mirrors I am thinking of I may have done the same thing when tired. Put my foot on the bottom part to stretch the leg a teeny bit. The mirrors were always sturdy and I never thought of them falling.

The child was doing something dangerous. It's tragic that Mom didn't see it or stop it. You just keep laughing.
From what we know, the child "stepped on" the mirror. Play-ING is an entirely different thing.
The event could have been prevented had the mother had the child in the cart, or it might have been prevented had Wal-Mart attached the mirror more securely.
Can you prevent the child from falling with words?
The point is that although you think it is perfectly fine and safe to let a child ride in the basket, I don't. I don't because children fall out of them all the time.
I still wouldn't call you negligent if your child got hurt while riding in the basket.

That, is exactly what I'm talking about. Did you NEVER take an eye off of your kids for one moment? Are you so high and mighty that you blame someone for doing something that YOU most assuredly have done in YOUR lifeteme? Because if you are trying to tell us that your eyes have been glued to your kids from birth - you're lying!
I'm gonna have to check tri fold mirrors next time I'm in a store...
I suspect the hinges weren't properly attached. I can't imagine how a 3 year old could have gotten it off the hinge?!
It is SO tragic ... poor baby...
I remember when my kids were toddlers the worst incidents always seemed to happen right before my horrified eyes and I was about two feet away. Terrible accidents happen. That is why they are called accidents! At least in my case they weren't fatal, thank God.
