US Representative John Murtha of Pennsylvania, the senior Democrat on the House Defense Appropriations Committee and an Iraq war critic, was the guest at last Friday's Monitor breakfast.
"We have become occupiers. We cannot win this militarily. But I hesitated to say anything. I waited probably too long. The way we operate militarily is a problem.... We go into a place, we have to blow it up to protect American lives. I agree with that. That's the way we operate to protect Americans.
On what would change if the Democrats retook control of the House:
"Accountability is going to be the key. Corruption, talk about corruption ... there [are] billions of dollars that disappeared and we don't know where it is. We have all kinds of stories which haven't been followed up.... The biggest deficiency among all the other mistakes is no accountability in this administration ... I think checks and balances have gotten out of kilter."
On why he is running for House majority leader:
"I think I can help because I am more conservative.... There is an idea that [the Democrats'] leadership is very liberal and I think I bring some balance to that leadership."
On whether the press has been an active enough watchdog during the war in Iraq:
"I blame some of you guys, too. You guys knew this wasn't going well. You didn't say a damn word, either. You just sat back and were afraid to speak out. I don't know whether it was access or what. But you sat back and did nothing either.

Whoops, ration=ratio
Good LORD that man is stupid. You'd think his handlers would shut him up! Yeesh.
Hmmmmmmm, interesting thought! Let's keep our eyes and ears open.
Well, Ahamhead sure has been mouthy since this moron started spewing his garbage.
"Our troops have become the primary target of the insurgency," Murtha said. Islamic insurgents "are united against U.S. forces, and we have become a catalyst for violence,"...It's time to bring them home."
Murtha -- November 18, 2005
With my tin foil hat firmly in place, I would like to point out that the "alleged" Haditha "masacre" took place on November 19, 2005.
Possible, but sounds more like ETOH to me.

LOL...thanks, I should know that you guys have all of the news there is about this subject...
Thanks for the thread.
I admire your consistent and tireless effort on behalf of your candidate. You invariably post on any relevant thread.
We don't always have all the info so be sure and let us know when you find something. ;*)
Okay, will do!
His poll number gotta be headed down.
It's been a long day with many interruptions.
I'm convinced they really believe the American people are so unattached from whats going on in politics, (and/or stupid) that they can make us believe anything, if only they get themselves all singing from the same sheet of music. Consistent lies may seem like truth, to those who are asleep at the wheel, politically.
This is how we got Tom Daschle. A man who told S.Dakotans he was conservative and supported the President for years and got away with it, but was the most vile, snide, politician we have had in decades. All it took was for the President to go up there and tell them the truth. To further add insult to injury, when Daschle knew he was on the verge of losing, he insulted the intelligence of people of the tribes, as they like to refer to themselves, by putting out a quick story on election day that white people were seen at the polls "looking at" (the Native Americans) and "shaking their heads" (which they find very insulting) This didn't work, or at least not enough to win.
People are so disconnected from politics which they find lame and boring. The Democrats contribute to that by constantly whining. They may even be conciously doing it for that purpose.
But lets face it, part of the problem is the fact that RNC has been brain-dead for decades. There simply isn't any intellence in there.
The reason Bush went to S.D? I called his campaign and suggested they go up there and do something about it (That was in 2000. they didn't get around to fixing it until '04) I said "I can't believe the people of S.D. are so messed up they would send this vile idiot to D.C. ---whats going on in there?" She said "I don't know" I said "we need to get in there and find out."
I also told them in 2000 to campaign in Tennessee (she said: "do you really think we can win?") and in Arkansas (I pointed out we already had a GOP Governor there) Why can't they see these things themselves? I also told them how to fix Florida (get some rich GOP'rs to build more middle-class family housing to counter the condo-Liberals, and check for NY'ers on the polls --- they found 40,000 NY'rs on rolls for both states and Katherine Harris cleaned them off! All that counting for 300 more votes!---looking for hanging chads! No more! They will never win in Florida again!) This is just common sense, stuff, not rocket science.
The main point about S.D. is its such a great example of democrat deception, aided and abetted with liberal media.
All those Daschle conferences on C-span in hushed tones. Nobody in S.D. watches C-span!
WHO did that! I'd better drink my coffee faster! What a way to wake up!
Isn't it, though. I justa 'bout flipped when it hit me.
The 'war' in Iraq wasn't supposed to last this long. And the 'war' in Iraq didn't. The WOT took over. Maybe all his defense appropriations aren't being appropriated like he'd promised.
Good job!
Isn't that something?
BTTT
Talk about ABSCAM and his lobbyist-brother? Don't think so.
