3 more plead guilty in Oregon to ecoterrorism
Trio were part of group that planted bombs around western U.S.
July 21, 2006
EUGENE, Ore. - Three more people pleaded guilty Friday to being part of an ecoterrorist cell that planted fire bombs around the West.
The trio are accused of trying to stop logging, wild horse roundups, genetic engineering of plants, sport utility vehicles sales and expansion of a ski resort into endangered lynx habitat.
In pleading guilty, the three admitted they were part of the Earth Liberation Front and Animal Liberation Front, loose-knit groups of environmental activists that claimed credit for arsons in recent years throughout the West.
The pleas in U.S. District Court brought to six the number of people indicted on conspiracy and arson charges. They have agreed to cooperate with the investigation into 16 attacks that occurred from 1996 to 2001 and caused more than $20 million in damage in Oregon, Washington, California, Wyoming and Colorado.
Three others pleaded guilty Thursday, three are fugitives, and four are scheduled to go on trial Oct. 31.
Those pleading guilty were Portland disc jockey Chelsea Gerlach, 29; Stanislaus Meyerhoff, 29, Gerlach's high school classmate; and Susanne Savoie, 29, an employee at a group home for the developmentally disabled.
Meyerhoff and Gerlach admitted to a number of attacks, including firebombing a police station in 2000. Meyerhoff and Savoie admitted setting fire to a lumber company in 2001, and Savoie pleaded guilty to setting fire to a tree farm.
Prosecutors recommended prison sentences of 15 years for Meyerhoff, 10 for Gerlach, and five for Savoie.

Thanks for the good news.
These dangerous eco terrorists have gone from green hero during the Clintoon/Jake Reno reign of terror to scummy and dangerous eco terrorist thugs.
4-5 years ago when a few of us dared to label these green thugs as eco terrorists, we would catch hell from the free to do anything group on Free Republic.
Thanks for the ping.
If someone burns and destroys private or public property in the name of being green, arrest them, find them guilty, paint them green and put them in jail for their acts of terrorism.
Now we need to remove their former classmates and allies from being in the federal and state forests and parks and all levels of fish and game.
Organic terrorists. Home-grown to hate. No principle additives.
Maybe we can use Green Hemp Ropes to hang these eco terrorists.
You two are just grisly old, mean spirited Weepubwicans
What you see is what you get...
bump
Yep, and you probably are one too!:)
I'm rubber and you're glue...
Great news!!!!!!!!!!!
The fact that they didn't get caught for so long implies to me that "getting away with it" was a good recruitment tool...that is now gone. Even better is that the ring leaders are informing on their kin. THis is the best developement possible.
Ten years ago I was on a lookout tower with Gil Murray, a forester who was, at that time, the head of the California Forestry Asociation. I remeber pointing out the lay of the land to him, you know, who owned what, the names of the major rivers, the past fire history - forester stuff I guess. He was very sharp, a really good man.
The next day he opened a package from the Uni Bomber and was killed.
I remember getting a call from the sherriff's dept late that day, warning those of us who were politically active to "lay low" for awhile. Environmentalism took on a whole new meaning to me after that....
It is good that they caught some of these "environmentalists" and that some of their friends may now slow down their attacks on people, their homes, and their places of work.
Unfortunately, there are many more eco-terrorists still out there. They also may be more careful on leaving evidence behind.
It is also good that the FBI, ATF...are looking for the next crop of eco-terrorists.
I also agree that it is hard to be politically active and not set yourself up as a victim.
Sorry about your friend Gil Murray.
I assume they all are Democrats.

The Uni Bomber was/is a classic of how the left made enviral thugs into heroes. From Arcata to Ashland to Eugene to Portland to Seattle the Uni Bomber was a hero revolutionary to the the pervert left.
