hehehe, LOL!...I imagine enough of
them could hem you in as well...but as I am sure you are aware, I was speaking of the trees and the propensity of bears to "hang out" therein, making it almost impossible to see them until either you are right on them...or they are right on you:

I wish it were so. Unfortunately, we mostly stay home to take care of Mama. They will probably have to learn how to use the knife and ax in the back yard, which may freak out some of the neighbors. I had such experiences as a kid, but mine are missing out on most of them. I'm trying to get things squared away as best I can so we can do some of the things I took for granted as a kid... We got to go fishing once last summer, or maybe it was the summer before. At the lake in town. Biggest fish caught was a 2" bluegill.
However, I figure that if we can't actually do it, reading about it, while a very distant second best, may at least help them know what to do if things ever go really bad.
We hope, in a few years, to get 5-10 acres in a rural area, and live there... may not happen, as Mama's in a power wheelchair, and that limits us severely.

Jumpin' jeepers, man, you truly are one brave guy. I have one of those knives and I will never go for a walk in the woods without it ever again.

Thanks so much for this ping, GMMAC. That, as we say in the military aviation community, is a confirmed kill!

Congrats Tom. I've seen this story several times on TV and have read about in some of the National Newspapers. In fact, as I'm typing this it's on CBC NewsWorld again - Jeez, you're getting to be quite the celebrity - for a Canadian.;)

The results are not always positive though, we have a murderer of two RCMP officers at large in Northern Manitoba because of these skills and character, and he may never be found. We had two guys who killed a New Mexico police officer in one of the wilder areas of the state near the Colorado border. They too were skilled outdoorsmen. But nature caught up with them all the same. One broke an ankle and blew his own brains out. Take heart.

because black bears are harmless. Tell that to the lady in Columbus, NM who was eaten by one in her home a couple years ago.

Even better is a Ruger Super Black Hawk in .44 mag with a 7.5 inch barrel, if thats possible. Worked perfectly on a bear in a neighbors goat pen about three weeks ago. Said it went down like a sack of bricks.
