BERLIN: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made no mention of his country's nuclear program in a letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, but he did make statements about Israel and the Holocaust that are "not acceptable," the German government said Friday.
"The letter contains ... no statements on the Iranian nuclear program" and also does not address the current fighting in Lebanon, Merkel's spokesman, Ulrich Wilhelm, told reporters. He said it was devoted largely to criticism of Israel and its right to exist. "It contains many statements that are not acceptable to us, in particular about Israel, the state of Israel's right to exist and the Holocaust," he said.
"Our position on these questions is known," Wilhelm said.
He noted Merkel repeatedly has said that Israel's right to exist is a cornerstone of German policy and that "it is in no way acceptable to us to question it."
"The German government does not have the intention of entering into correspondence with the Iranian president," Wilhelm said, adding that Berlin would instead continue to support multilateral efforts to bring about a suspension of Iran's nuclear program.
While Ahmadinejad's letter did not mention the program, Wilhelm said it noted that there was "a great interest on the part of Iran to achieve cooperation." The spokesman pointed to a package of incentives drawn up by the UN Security Council's five permanent members and Germany to persuade it to suspend uranium enrichment.
Speaking about the package in a Friday sermon, influential former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said: "They have included something in their offer either to humiliate Iran or to make the proposal practically unacceptable ... They have set a precondition. They say first suspend, and then negotiations," he said of the offer.
An acceptance of the offer by Tehran would "mean submission on Iran's part," he added. - Agencies
I think the madman wants the Germans to take the Jews back, after all, in his mind, it is the German's fault the Jews went to Isreal in the first place. The Germans did not succeed in killing all the Jews and instead foisted the "Zionist" problem on the Islamic world by letting them have some of their prized Muslim desert land. The holocaust did not happen, or else where did all those Jews living on Muslim land come from?
So, again in the mad Iranian's mind, he is probably offering Germany an ultimatum. Take the Jews back or we have every right to attack your interests.
Maybe he just wants a pen pal.
That's my take on it too.
If Germany wants to help, they should release the full text of the letter to expose why Iran can't be allowed to have nukes.
The proper response to the letter is to withdraw the offers and declare publically, that Iran must give up its nuclear program completely, and for nothing, or there will be hell to pay.
But when was the last time anyone saw anything so sensible from a German politician?
