Syria placed its army on war preparedness

pointed Scuds at Israel from Thursday, July 20, the day Tehran took control of Lebanon War Our sources add Syrian fighter pilots are sitting in their cockpits.

These orders went out from Syrian president Bashar Assad July 20 when Iran’s Revolutionary Guards commander Brig.-Gen Yahya Rahim Safavi (picture) assumed command of the Lebanon war from Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Tehran’s direct military intervention in the conflict was accompanied by an Iranian weapons airlift which began landing Wednesday, July 19, at the Abu Ad Duhur military airfield north of Homs. The deliveries include large quantities of new missiles, including the long-range Zelzal and Fajr 3 and Fajr 5 missiles, Katyusha rockets, anti-tank and anti-air missiles sent out from RG HQ in Bandar Abbas on the Persian Gulf.

Assad acted on the assumption that Israel, whose air force and ground forces are already hammering the cross-border supply routes north of the Litani River to block the passage of Iranian hardware to Hizballah, will soon decide to go for Iranian military operations in Damascus and Abu Ad Duhur.

Gen. Safavi has set up two forward command posts which coordinate war operations with Hizballah chief of staff Ibrahim Akil.

One center is working out of a cellar of the Iranian embassy in Beirut to regulate Hizballah rocket fire against Israel and direct the groups of 3 or 4 RG officers taking part in every Hizballah face-to-face engagement with Israeli ground troops in the south.

The second, housed in the basement of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, is in charge of communications, intelligence and getting hardware into Lebanon.

The deliveries were made to the Abu Ad Duhur airfield because it belongs to the joint Iranian-Syrian Scud missile factory which employs a large number of Iranian

engineers and technicians.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that some of the Iranian arms have Hizballah in Lebanon notwithstanding intense Israeli cutoff operations and their impact will probably be palpable in the coming days.

Then Iran has formerly declared war on Israel. and Israel is now fighting Iran, directly? And this would give a hint as to why the PM of Lebanon is set to fight Israel instead of the Hezies?

One center is working out of a cellar of the Iranian embassy in Beirut ...

Target No. 1

The second, housed in the basement of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, ...<.i>

Target No. 2

If Iran has jumped in, formerly, then Iran is now a fair target. With even the ARab League against them - and Saudi ARabia declaring a Fatwa on them - we will never get a better chance at killing the rabid dogs of terrorism hellbent on ruling the world.

One wonders if, with the imminent land invasion of the Israelis, Iran isn't fearful of what my be uncovered in the Bekka valley...

If this were true, it would prove a treasure of information
if captured by Israel.

Well, I'd certainly expect them to. Not to be an apologist for the Syrians, but what sovereign state wouldn't start at least a partial mobilization in its situation? IIRC Syria hasn't signed any peace treaty with Israel like Jordan and Egypt.

Be nice if the embassy would suffer a mysterious explosion tonight, with no aircraft seen visually or on radar.

I'm sure the Israeli fighter pilots are quaking in their flight boots...NOT. More likely they are licking their chops, hoping for a repeat of the Great Bekaa Valley Turkey Shoot. I suspect discretion will prevail and the Syrians pilots will una$$ those cockpits at the first approach of Israeli aircraft.

What in the hell are we waiting for. War has been declared by Syria and Iran. If we leave this up to Israel, we will have made the worst mistake in American history and will suffer.

Hit or miss.

They claimed at one time OBL was heading for Iraq and that Saddam had escaped to Belarus.

Thanks, that was my take also. I do know that in the past they have put out some pretty interesting information. Most seems to be debunked if I remember correctly but other info has had the ring of truth.

John Loftus gets a good deal of his stuff from Debka and from Yossef Bodansky - who's track record is just a poor as Debka (He claimed Zarqawi was killed in June of 2005 and was buried in a islamic graveyard in Jordan).

You know Assad has a problem when statements like

Syrian fighter pilots are sitting in their cockpits

provoke universal laughter.

"Then Iran has formerly declared war on Israel."

Has it been formally announced that Iran is directing the war, or is this Debka inside info?

And this would give a hint as to why the PM of Lebanon is set to fight Israel instead of the Hezies?

Did I miss something? Is the Lebanon army getting into this? Last I heard they were content to fire anti-aircraft guns and stay put.
