Democrats lagging in fund-raising; war chest has 1/10 of what GOP has (KY)

FRANKFORT - At first glance, turmoil in the governor's office and within the state Republican Party appears to favor Democrats in the fall legislative elections.

But with just over three months to go before Election Day, the state Democratic Party lags far behind in fund-raising, with just $61,000 in its main accounts as of June 30. ...

"There's a big controversy out there as people are saying, 'How much have we raised and how much have we spent?'" said Rep. Kathy Stein, a Lexington Democrat. ... In comparison, the Kentucky Republican Party has raised about $650,000 in 2006 and spent $750,000 -- including giving the re-election campaigns of GOP state Sens. Alice Forgy Kerr and Charlie Borders $50,000 each. ... Much of the party's operations have been covered by proceeds from the Hillary Clinton fund-raiser in Louisville on Dec. 2.

At that event, Lundergan told Clinton on stage that it had brought in $600,000.

However, the party confirmed late yesterday that it had raised a total of $649,309 in the entire period between Nov. 1, 2005 -- about the time the Clinton event was first announced -- and June 30, 2006.

That means either the party raised only $50,000 since the Dec. 2 event or that the Clinton fund-raiser didn't bring in $600,000.

"The Hillary Clinton event received right at $600,000," Lundergan insisted yesterday. "Yes, there's a small amount that still needs to be collected from it. But it's at that mark." ... Democratic State Treasurer Jonathan Miller declined to comment...Congressman Ben Chandler and state Auditor Crit Luallen, declined to comment.

The full article is rather amusing over the controversy of the supposed figure of the Hillary fundraiser and where that money is. I just hope it continues to be amusing come the election in November.

The Democrats are being led around the nose by the Drive By Media and have become sassy and complacent because they think the election's already in the bag. In the real world, no one's particularly excited about their candidates and their message.

This does not surprise me. KY is very conservative red state. Why does it surprise us that the dem is behind the republicans in fundraising. I would imagine that New York Democrats out fundraise the Republicans. Am I missing something? We haven't gotten to the point of bragging about fundrasing in places where we have all Republicans. There are states that are purple and if we out fundraise there than we are doing great and should brag all over town.

GOP's financial edge dulled in '06
By Rick Klein, Globe Staff

WASHINGTON -- Democrats have all but wiped out the Republicans' historical fund-raising advantage for House and Senate races and appear to be approaching this fall's midterm congressional elections in better financial shape than at any point since they lost control of Congress in 1994, according to campaign-finance data released this week.

"That means either the party raised only $50,000 since the Dec. 2 event or that the Clinton fund-raiser didn't bring in $600,000." and this means the rat is lying as usual.

Bush Team Raises $189 Million for Nov. Elections

President Bush, Laura Bush, and others close to the president, such as Karl Rove, have raised $189 million so far for the November elections, according to Republican sources. That figure is more than TWICE the amount the Bush team raised for congressional races during the ENTIRE 2002 election cycle.

The funds were raised at 136 events, including 44 attended by Bush himself. The money went to the Republican National Committee, congressional campaign committees, and individual Republican candidates.

Overall, Republicans continue to hold a STRONG lead over Democrats in fund raising. According to FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION reports for June, the RNC has raised $152.9 million during the current election cycle, compared with $79.6 million for the Democratic National Committee. The RNC has $43.1 million in cash on hand, compared with $10.3 million for the Democrats.

If this was true it would NOT be a Saturday morning story. Every ratmedia outlet would lead with it all day Monday. It would knock the war in Israel off the front page.

I believe that Rick Klein is the only 'reporter'... who Jean Francois Kerry cleared to view his Form 180.

You don't seem to know much about Kentucky, its history, and the current political climate to be making such statements...

Very fair assessment. I truly don't.
