This is the article which alerted me to this program.I cannot post this due to copyright reasons but this is an amazing offer from Ellsworth County Kansas, if true.

http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060721/COLUMNISTS02/607210358/1120/NEWS

A place where you can get help financing a new house through government-sponsored programs, plus get help in coming up with a down payment.

Sounds like a fantasy, doesn't it?

Not only can you get free land and help financing in Ellsworth County, the incentive package to move into town and set up your life comes with little gifties like waivers of building permit fees, sewer tap fees, one month of free water, free basic cable, free dial-up Internet and your choice of a family golf pass for one year, an annual family swimming pool pass or monthly recreation fees for one year.

No, it's true. Here in Kansas towns are trying this stuff. We are losing pop. to the city and out of state. It is really hurting small towns and their school districts.

The catch is there aren't the high end jobs you'll find in a urban area. On the plus side you can live on much, much less. If you want a peaceful, middle class life KS can do that. If you want trendy hot spots and glamour jobs, well good luck.

They need to include free high speed internet - then they'd get people coming there in droves.

Then you can actually get a job that pays really well, because you can be a teleworker.

Interesting. Bribing people to settle there! I wonder if it will trigger a bidding war!
