Actually, they should be hung and if you didn't want to hang them by the neck till dead, I am sure something could be figured out. however, Australia now does not believe in the DP. If this would happen one or two times, maybe some people would get the idea that if you want to rape someone, go to a country that the rape victim will be killed as an "honor." instead of raping in civilized societies.
And they'd be shouting back and forth like they were halfway to strangling themselves, contemplating pistol purchases, or AK-knock-offs --whatever. And they had the long, mangy beards, and all that.

At least their media print the truth about perpetrators, while USA media carefully strike out any word or description which might lead a reader to conclude that the perpertator is a member of a group that the gov has designated as official victim and worthy of special benefits.
In your view, why hasn't there been another large-scale terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11? If, on 9/12/01, someone told me there would not be another attack of this kind on U.S. soil for the next five years, I would not have believed them. No way.

I think because the strongest psychological impact of another attack could be had if it came at a time when the country had really calmed down.
I think inevitably people will eventually start to tire of being alert, of living in fear, and that they will tire and sink back into apathy, and then finally into a deep contented bliss.
And then I think they're going to really, really let us have it.
I think they understand they certainly can't triumph militarily, so they're just going to take away our peace of mind.
So to do that over the long term, they first they have to appear to give it back to us.
I googled a bunch of articles, and learned that the identities of perps is indeed protected under Australian law.
