Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will lay out U.S. plans Friday for a diplomatic solution to the Israeli-Hezbollah fighting, and she and President Bush will meet with Saudi Arabian officials Sunday to discuss it.
Rice departs later Sunday for the Mideast, and will carry the U.S. strategy for ending the 10-day-old warfare and establishing stability in southern Lebanon, a senior administration official said.

Secretary Rice's comments later today will be of interest and those comments would merit breaking news.
Well, I guess we gotta make it look like we're doing something to calm down the situation.
But, surely, the president wants the Israelis to "take out" the Hezzies in southern Lebanon?
Screw the Saudis, btw.
I am strongly in favor of any diplomatic solution in which Syria and Iran end up in a worse strategic situation than the one they currently find themselves, and I think that's just what Bush and Condi are working on.
My first thoughts are that this is a way of stalling or even preempting the UN until the IDF can get its ground effort underway.
I see a sea change in our Mideast philosophy, for the past 30 some years is been cease fire after cease fire with nothing substantial coming from them. Me thinks we are going to press hard on the Arab countries to press hard on Iran and Syria..... In the end they know that the Israelis don't have designs on their oil fields, the same can't be said of Iran
Are either Mr. Bush or Condi going to stand up to the Saudis?
Haven't for the last 6 years.
It is quite likely the Arab nations see Persian Iran's intentions for the region, and their nations, as a threat that must be dealt with. The US and Israel are countering that threat as we speak. I think Iran and Hezbollah have given the Arab leaders enough cover to support action against them.
I think the Bush Administration is much more capable and sophisticated in foreign policy than the previous administration pretended to be.
The always-acting-in-bad-faith Wahabi Lobby rides again. Dear Fraudis, why don't you skip meeting with GWB and Condi, and lean on Hezbollah (and its supporters Iran and Syria) to stop attacking Israel instead?
If Lebanon is strong enough to fight Israel, Lebanon should have been strong enough to fight Hezbollah.
The Wahabis are our enemies, but so are the Iranian Shiite fanatics. And they hate each other. So, maybe something might come of this, although it always makes me uncomfortable pretending the Saudis are our friends.

Makes sense.
If Jim Baker isn't busy defending the Saudis against the 9/11 victims lawsuit he can come for dinner too.
Saudi Arabia is under attack from the same people the US are. It is an ally.
You need to pay closer attention apparently you have missed the first ever refusal to blame Israel in this event.
I have an easy 2-part diplomatic solution:
1) Hezbollah and Hamas return the kidnapped soldiers immediately, in good condition.
2) Hezbollah and Hamas renounce all forms of violence against Israel, and agree to let her live in peace.
Anything other than that is a nonstarter, in my opinion.
Ally?
How many of them were in on 9-11?
Who finances radical islam?
Who teaches their children that Jews and Americans are devils?
Who had the U.S. build up bases for U.S. troops then threw them out?
Any idea how many Saudis have been caught and are in Guantanamo?
Only reason we have anything to do with these pukes is cause of oil.
Ally? I don't think so.
From your tag line you are a Naval MOM. GOD bless your child MOM. Tell that child that many if not most here care and thank them, and thank you. Hang tough and may GOD bless.
Thank you. My son called me today all excited that a two star Iraqi Admiral was on the base today for training and he is staying in his dorm. Obviously things are better over there than we are being told by the MSM.
It's been almost a media blackout lately.
