War of the Worlds star Dakota, 12, has signed up to appear in Hounddog.
The screenplay calls for Fanning's character to be raped in one explicit scene and to appear naked or clad only in "underpants" in several other horrifying moments.
A source close to the film said: "The two taboos in Hollywood are child abuse and the killing of animals.
"In this movie, both things happen." Fanning's mother, Joy, and her Hollywood agent, Cindy Osbrink, see the movie, written and directed by Deborah Kampmeier, as a possible Oscar vehicle for the pint-size star.

The fallacy the depicting something is a de facto endorsement of it seems to die hard. I think it's a theological paradigm that sees Film as an implicit form of Idol Worship. That's the only context by which it makes sense.

Then I wonder where I'm going -- because my thought was, "but what will they do with the animal"?

What about Dakota? Doesn't she have any say in this?
I would hate to think her mother would be willing to sacrifice any innocence Dakota has left for the sake of a flippin' statuette.
Of course, I'd like to know who the hell Deborah Kampmeier is. She obviously has some issues.

Hollywood is the last acceptable target of class warfare. Those who work in film seem to have not only money, but the ever-popular commodity of fame. And both appear to be acquired with little effort.

I'm doing my part -- I've only seen one movie this year. Try it.
The last movie I went to see was Narnia. Before that the Lord of the Rings series. It's actually quite liberating to cut movies out of your life.

Already off to a bad start. Yet another reason to stay home and watch older movies on DVD.

Substitute 'books' or 'music' for 'movies' and tell me how that statement makes sense.

I'm doing my part -- I've only seen one movie this year. Try it. That's one more trip to the movies than I've made this year. Haven't been to the video store either. The last time I bought a movie was when I was stockpiling on bootleg movies in Iraq. 2 - 4 movies per dvd @ $3.00 per dvd.
I figure if Hollywood does come out with a movie I find interesting enough to see in the theater, I'll catch it at the bargain theater down the road. $1.00 every day, Tuesday is half price day, me and the wife can get in for a buck.

I have the same problem with Oliver Stone's new movie. I don't care HOW good it is, it's not subject matter for entertainment, and I don't need it re-enacted for me.

Frankly I can't stand Dakota Fanning. This girl is a prodigy. She's homeschooled, learned to read at age 2, and used to act out scenes shortly thereafter. She has co-starred with powerhouse actors such as Cruise, Denzel Washington, and Robert DeNiro. She's the 2nd coming of Jodie Foster, IMO.

Certainly reminds me of the tail end of Rome.

hahahaha, pretty accurate response, IMHO.

If you go to see a movie depicting child rape for your entertainment, what does that say about you? If it's not for entertainment, then why are you going?
I don't see how this kind of thing can fly, but apparently it can.

Are images of a nude or nearly nude child portraying rape, child porn?
Actually, you ask a VERY good question. This begins to look like Hollyweird's "new" direction, following in the hoofprints of another mainstream porn film, "Brokeback Mountain".

Generally, I'd agree with you. Like most of today's child actors, her performances are totally unbelievable as an actual child in the real world. However, she was quite good in Dreamer.
To: Akeirook
Disgusting!
To: Akeirook
It was bound to happen. Like most child actors, this littl girl has been subtly eroticized on screen since day one.
It's all part of the modern economic system. Objectify human beings -- turn them into commodities to be bought and sold -- and, in the end, everything is for sale.
With every day that passes I'm more inclined to move to Greenland.
