What a beautiful Hibiscus. I dont recall ever seeing one that vibrant!
Sorry you had to leave at 3:00 Amy. I have to leave at 3:30. Maybe we can get the pictures straight later tonight. I won't be home until 10 or 10:30, possibly later. And being on the west coast you won't be home until later than that. Oh well.
Nan ... it is only 12:30 here.
The email hasn't arrived yet ..... I'll keep checking.
Thank you dear Meg & caring Kitty
for your gorgeous floral pic pings!
HUGS x 2!!

I also don't believe in Atkins (especially, well, the meat part). I've lost a substantial amount of weight by cutting out "empty" carbs. No flour, no sugar, no fake food (ESPECIALLY NO FAKE FATS, they are usually just replaced with bad carbs), except I do use a sweetener like Splenda.
Mine is actually a pretty high fat diet (think olives, avocado, real cream, cheese, all the nuts you want pretty much, because you feel so satisfied with so much less food, and chew, chew, chew), a cup of clear hot broth before at least two meals, and really really small portions. A relative of mine had gastric bypass surgery, and her post-surgical diet for some weeks was broth and teensy portions. I thought, why have the surgery if the diet you have to follow anyway works? (And it does.) Anyway, it worked for me.
your diet is similar to mine.. (lotsa fat.. cheese is my downfall).. what do you have for broth? do you make up a veggie type?
I use Knorr's "vegetarian vegetable", Washington's "Golden", a generic onion broth or a packet from a package of ramen noodles, or make my own (I love celery broth with a dose of garlic and spices.)
Right now, my favorite snack food is a jazzed up tabouli I keep in the fridge. I'll start with the boxed version, and before the grains are fully reconstituted, I'll add a medium-sized can of diced tomatoes, and probably twice or three times as much lemon and olive oil as the recipe calls for (which is usually just a couple of tablespoons), and minced garlic. Then I stick it back in the fridge to finish soaking up the liquids. When I snack on this, it is VERY satisfying.
that all sounds good. I didn't know ramen came in a NON meat type.. I get chicken, beef etc for my mom.
I have never had/made tabouli (need to look that one up). I am not actually a very knowledgeable vegetarian.. just do mostly veggies & pastas & jazz them up. Have to look more into the asian & mideastern foods. I enjoy eating them out but usually don't know what I am eating
You sound like you're doing just fine, and eating sensibly. Some vegetarians are (cough) snippy purists about their food choices, and the choices of others. I don't eat meat because I feel better not eating meat, that's all. (I'll try to find a cute cartoon someone sent me to FReepmail you about vegetarians.)
Tabouli is sometimes spelled "taboule" or "tabbouli", so if you're googling it, it might be found under one of the alternative spellings. It's basically a cold wheat salad.
Have you checked out the wonderful Quorn products I told you about? My favorites are "tenders" which are like white meat chicken, "naked cutlets" which are like a whole portion of breast meat with no coating, or "grounds", which are like ground hamburger. Go to www.Quorn.com and check out the nutritional information, which is fantastic. The roast (like a rolled turkey breast) is also wonderful, but can get dry if overcooked.
Actually, I'm kind of beat and will head for bed now. I'll look tomorrow. Sorry!
I haven't been able to find them at the stores I frequent when you sent me the name a few months ago. I forgot the name when I was in Wild Oats yesterday, drat. I did find a new brand of veggie burgers.. I bought two /4 packs of each "flavor".. I am now cooking up my second pizza from there.. A wild Oats brand.. mediterranean. I have added extra basil
Night.. see you tomorrow
The carnivores now may safely return to the thread....
lol
