Joe Lieberman Has a New Political Ally, Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton is one shrewd politician. The former president has announced that he will campaign for Joe Lieberman in Connecticut. Bill Clinton has scheduled a July 24th appearance with Lieberman in Waterbury, Connecticut to campaign for Joe.

Surprised? One shouldn't be. The two politicians have known each other since Clinton worked on Lieberman's first campaign for state Senate in 1970.

But that has precious little to do with Bill Clinton's visit.

Joe Lieberman's August 8 primary challenger Ned Lamont (D) has surged ahead of the incumbent Senator and now holds a razor-thin 51% to 47% lead among likely Democratic primary voters, according to a new Quinnipiac poll.

***

Clinton is doing this as he sees the far left fringe of his political party gaining power within the party and understands that is a disaster.

He understands politics and fully understands how important the 'middle' is for Dems.

Fringe left groups can win few statewide elections and will be an embarrassment on the national stage. See Howard Dean circa 2004.

***

This will frustrate some Republicans as they now see Mr. Lieberman as an ally. And many of those Republicans loathe Bill Clinton as much as he loathes the military.

But if Bill Clinton can sway the August 8 primary and keep Lieberman in the US Senate as a Democrat it will be a huge victory for the Clinton wing of the party and that includes his wife Hillary.

***

A Lieberman loss in the primary will still see Senator Joe Lieberman from Connecticut after the November 2006 elections, but he will have an "I" after his name as he will win as an Independent.

That hurts Hillary in 2008, and hurts the Democrats overall chances of regaining overall respect and perhaps even one House of Congress.

It's a wise move by Bubba. It will be interesting to see if he still can pull it off.

Clinton and Lieberman Try to Rally the Middle

Meanwhile, Hillary is saying she won't support a third party run by Lieberman. Good cop, bad cop.

The old schlickmeister does nothing for anybody without extracting something in return. I wonder what Joe's pound of flesh will turn out to be.

Is it possible that Clinton is worried that the Republican would win if Lieberman is defeated?? The democrat vote would be split allowing the republican to squeak through. Clinton got involved in NJ when Torricelli was in danger of losing. I think Clinton's eye is on the ball and he's trying to prevent another GOP seat.

This is the kiss of death for Liberman. Everyone Clinton campaigns for gets less than half the vote, including himself.

It's a shame all the presstittutes covering this fiasco won't ask Joe if he meant what he said in the well of The Senate back in 1998.

But Hillary has said she will support the primary winner and isn't campaigning for either?

I don't think so. Remember, the RAT voters love Clinton and might well obey him if he speaks well of Joe. I liked what Joe said about Clinton's intern-alizing in the WH, but was really upset when he voted to let the Felon off when the crucial vote came up in the Senate. One RAT is the same as all others, in my way of thinking. They are all wrong, immoral, moronic and must be kept out of power at every level.

"Say goodbye Joe. This is the political kiss of death."

That's exactly what I was thinking. It's like getting a visit from the Grim Reaper. Bill Clinton's visit to Florida in'02 to campaign for Bill McBride against Jeb Bush turned a near statistical dead-heat into a 13 point trouncing by Jeb.

Ally? Just don't become his friend. They are all dead.

I wonder what Joe's pound of flesh will turn out to be.

Probably, if he wins, Senator Lieberman will be "encouraged" to make a speech saying that he was wrong to publicly criticize Clinton's behavior during Monica-gate.

"Is it possible that Clinton is worried that the Republican would win if Lieberman is defeated?? "

Last poll I saw had Lieberman wining in a 3 way contest with Lamont and the Republican candidate.
Lieberman is probably going to end up winning either way, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
Having yet another Bush-hating, loony left aniti-war, psycho like Lamont in the Senate can only be bad for America.
Plus why break the ZERRO record of the Kos moonbats in backing candidates?

More details have come out about Alan Schlesinger's gambling habits so any tiny chance he had of being a contender in this race is probably destroyed anyway.

Now that Clinton is on the case, that probably means the end for Lieberman too.
