Presidential press secretary Tony Snow today defended his boss' level of commitment to border security, saying President Bush is "cognizant" of the fact terrorists may be entering the U.S. illegally.
"The president has made his views on border security well-known," WND told the spokesman, "and my question: Would the president make border security a higher priority if he were convinced it was being used as an entry point by terrorists like those who are part of Hezbollah and al-Qaida?"
Responded Snow: "Think of it this way. The president committed as much money to the borders already as the House of Representatives was planning on doing in five years. So, he was serious before he's perfectly cognizant of the possibility there may be terrorists crossing over. We have intelligence assets deployed in the area, and so he's not going to be anymore concerned because he's already very concerned about it."
Yesterday, Snow indicated the president "is already putting National Guardsmen in positions where they can relieve the Border Patrol" part of a $1.9 billion supplemental appropriation.

Day late and a dollar short, W. They're already here, thanks to your open borders non-policy. Just a matter of time, now...You took the words right out of my mouth. We'll see how he weathers the hell storm when terrorists strike here again and it's discovered they came across our open borders.

I agree that Dubya is a good President. He may even go down in history as a Great President.
But the man does have some huge glaring blind spots.

The border is definitely a major problem...
but I don't of any proof that there are terrorists in this country having entered the country illegaly over the Southern border.

President Bush is "cognizant" of the fact terrorists may be entering the U.S. illegally.
Which is why he plans to sign
the FTA that allows Omani's to fly crop dusters here. And when the MEFTA is signed, everyone in the Middle East all get to come here to fly crop dusters.

I see that Tim Walberg just started running ads that target Joe Schwarz's weak stance on illegal immigration. Poor Joe doesn't face a half dozen candidates this time around and may not be able to get himself a big 28% win.

I wonder if at any time the usual ranters will ever quit lying? We have NEVER had an "Open Border". You all know that is a complete lie. I bet the Border Patrol would be really amazed to find out that we have an "Open Border". This daily hysteria was amusing for a while but this habit of relentless manufactured hysteria from the Perpetual Whiners is really getting old. It time the Whine All The Time Choir grow up. Way past time for them to all grow out of this daily temper tantrum. No one is listening and no one but the 1% Buchannanites care anymore. The Senate Bill is dead. NO bill will come up this year AND you have lost every primary election you tried to swing your way.You all are politically irrelevant. Screaming louder will not change that reality. Learn to live with that fact.

Then, you haven't been keeping up on the news.
from
Washington Post: Bickering on the border
Also, it is believed by some members of the law-enforcement community that al Qaeda loyalists have been offering Mexican gang members large sums of money for the smuggling of radical Islamist operatives into the United States. And, even more frightening, is the fact that Muslim prayer rugs have been discovered by U.S. Border Patrol agents along immigration paths on the U.S. side of the border.
Or this:
from
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson's web site
Suspected al-Qaeda sleeper agent Mohammed Junaid Babar has told investigators of a scheme to smuggle terrorists across the Mexican border. Babar is tied to a terror plot to carry out bombings and assassinations in London. Along the Mexican border there have been stories of suspicious items picked up by local residents, including Muslim prayer rugs and notebooks written in both Arabic and Spanish.
You might also look at this article in the Tucson Weekly:
Other Than Mexicans
Are terrorists entering the United States through Arizona's border with Mexico? This question is getting a lot of media attention--so we sent Leo W. Banks to the border to find out what the buzz is all about.
