Lebanon basically "sold out" - they allowed the southern part of their country to be used as a terrorist staging zone - 11000 missiles, fighters, tunnel complexes, etc. They did want to do anything about it - worse then that - I am sure they took plenty of cash from Iran, used to rebuild the Beirut area as a "vacation and tourist hot spot". And now they are paying the price for allowing that.

I think Israel ought to take a 10-15 mile stretch of land at the border (on the Lebanese side), remove all of the people and housing, and use that stretch of land as a buffer zone.
They could do this with the promise that Lebanon can have it back once they are a decent, honest country with a decent, honest government (relatively speaking), no Hezbollah, and no Syrian or Iranian influence.
Is that such a bad idea? I'd love to hear why it would or wouldn't work. I know the Arab street wouldn't like the idea, but if Israel is not occupying it and agrees to turn it back over at some point then why not?
