Russia says Israel offensive goes too far

MOSCOW, July 20 (Reuters) - Russia said on Thursday that the Israeli offensive on Lebanon had gone "far beyond" the anti-terrorist operation Israel says it is conducting against the Hizbollah militia.
"The unprecedented scale of victims and destruction bear witness to the fact that the actions that were announced to (free captured Israeli servicemen) have gone far beyond the bounds of an anti-terrorist operation," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Israeli warplanes and artillery have been pounding Lebanon for more than a week. Israel says it is retaliating for the capture of two of its soldiers in a Hizbollah operation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the weekend he respected Israel's right to self-defence but added he believed Israel had other motives for the offensive. He did not say what those motives were.
The Russian Foreign Ministry statement underlines differences among major powers over how to respond to the violence. Washington has emphasised its view that extremists backed by Iran and Syria are to blame, and not Israel.
The United Nations Security Council, where Russia is one of the five veto holders, is to discuss a response to the crisis.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a newspaper interview published on Thursday the first step to peace was a ceasefire. Washington has said a U.N. resolution calling for a ceasefire is unlikely to rein in Hizbollah.

Russia didn't like the way the U.S. dealt with the Taliban in Afganistan, or our handling of Iraq either. Now, Israel is in about the same situation we were in. Israel needs to keep taking care of business just like we did, and Russia can take care of Russia.

Talk about hypocrites and as for Putin and Russia, there is no way we can ever trust them, ever!

This is hilarious. When the Israelis start using poison gas against Hezbollah the way the Russians did in that Moscow theater, then maybe we can talk.

The Russians, who destroyed Grozny, presume to lecture Israel about "going too far??" If Israel wanted to do that, Lebanon would ceased to exist by now. There has to be a limit to chutzpah, even from the Russians.

But it was okay for Russia to blow Chechnya to rubble when Chechnyans were blamed for an apartment building explosion in Moscow. Sorry, but what Israel is doing in Lebanon looks like a 60s love-in compared to the scorched earth rape of Chechnya the Russians engaged in that left Grozny, the capital, a total smoking ruin. I'm not saying they didn't deserve it, but if Russia can defend itself with an iron fist, Israel can do so with kid gloves.

Okay, maybe the Israelis and the Americans should not be that ruthless.
But the Arabs would mess with us just a teeny bit less if we were a little bit more ruthless like the Russians.

"The unprecedented scale of victims and destruction bear witness to the fact that the actions that were announced to (free captured Israeli servicemen) have gone far beyond the bounds of an anti-terrorist operation," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.I hope Israel's intention is not 'retaliation' but rather to destroy Hezbollah's infrastructure and to kill as many Hezbollahians as possible. That would usher in a long period of relative calm in the middle east. Of course Putin doesn't want to see that because relative calm in the middle east is perceived as beneficial to the US. Turmoil helps Russia and China.

Now let me ask you this. Why does the media could care less about what the Russians are doing while they're quick to condemn us in Iraq and the Israelis in Lebanon?

Here's what they need to do:
Hezballah is a political party, with voter rolls.
Israel needs to go capture the courthouses, take the voter rolls, then go to the houses identified therein as containing Hezballah voters, and kill everyone there.

Well what right does Russia have to tell Israel that the terrorist attacking it are "freedom fighters"? And that it has gone to far in killing them. Israel hasn't even begun to do to Lebanon what Russia did to Chechnya or its people.

And just how far did the Russians go in Chechnya? Or Budapest and Prague?

Because of the following equation: Russia/Putin = anti-Bush/anti-American = the Lame Stream Media.Unfortunately, that's true.

Absurd coming from the Russkies who laid waste to Grozny. Not that I disagreed with their actions against the sons of Allah Satan.
