In all seriousness, though...I hope she wins the suit. No way should the captain of a ferry that killed 11 passengers get his job back.

If you do a search on the SI Ferry accident, you will find out that the Investigation by the US Coast Guard said Iris Weinshall was negligent. She was and still is head of the NY DOT that is responsible for the SI Ferry. She knew about all the Problems but only cared about clean restrooms on the Ferry. Nothing ever happened to her because Schumer and Mayor Bloomberg trade employees and God only knows what else. The Families of the Victims (11 dead and many more maimed)are still in litigation with the City of NY. While Chuckie was blaming GWB for the Katrina Problem his wife was negligent in that horrific accident, and nobody(especially that slimy putzhead) ever brought up her participation in the muck up that led to the death and maiming of so many.

I suspect there's a bigger issue here than just the captain's job. I believe the Department of Transportation in the City of New York was found to be grossly unqualified to oversee ferry operations (because the city DOT is primarily involved in streets and traffic, and ended up overseeing the ferry operations as a result of some kind of bureaucratic re-shuffling) -- which means this guy may have a very legitimate claim that the DOT had no business firing him when the agency itself was one of the primary culprits in the incident.
