"No reasons for the closure were immediately released."
You mean you need more of a reason than it collapsing and killing someone?
Dispute over Ted Williams Tunnel finally comes to a head........
Another victory for the Socialist State of Taxachusetts!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!
Have they tried to spin this as somehow being the fault of evil conservatives? Can it even be done?
Lieberals who brought us the Big Dig want the same people running national health care and investing for our retirement. Maybe there was a time in the past, before total sloth and corruption set in, when government could handle these types of projects - Hoover Dam, TVA, Manhattan project - but that time is gone.
As smart as they are they will probably throw a few more billion at it. Yeah, that's the ticket...
Romney said state engineers had found two bolts that appeared to have slipped 1/2-inch and 1 inch in one ceiling panel. A special truck -- which expands to 11 1/2-feet wide, blocking the two travel lanes -- has been brought in to shore up the ceiling. He said engineers were working to come up with plan to reinforce the panel and allow traffic to pass. "It is perhaps an overreaction but we want to err on the side of public safety," Romney said at a news conference in which he said he was overruling an earlier finding by the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority that the tunnel was safe. The governor used emergency legislation to take control of overseeing the inspections of the Big Dig tunnels away from the authority shortly after the accident that killed Milena Del Valle, 39, as she and her husband drove to the airport. Engineers have been conducting so-called "pull tests" on tunnel ceilings after four of the three-ton panels in the Interstate 90 connector tunnel collapsed. The ceiling tiles in the Ted Williams tunnel are secured with a different system, and weigh much less, about 800 pounds each. Since the accident, crews have removed all the heavy tiles from the connector tunnel after tests showed none of the bolts that used epoxy could be trusted.
