Yes, the Arabs are the sons of Yishmael. They most certainly aren't "Palestinians" as they claim.

No. There's not even any evidence of this via the study of genetic traits. Modern Jews are more closely related to certain folks in Iraq (because of the Abraham/Mesopotamia background) than to Arabs or "Palestinians". Any group of people that had Abraham as its patriarch would show significant similarity to any other group having Abraham as its patriarch. The Ishmael claim of Islam was concocted as a means of trying to appropriate to a cobbled-together religion some of the mojo of the dominant religions of the Arabian Peninsula of the time, Christianity and Judaism. As far as the racial background of "Palestinians" is concerned, Joan Peters in From Time Immemorial gives a detailed overview.
