Marine Cleared in Shooting Death of Iraq Ambassador's Relative

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A U.S. Marine has been cleared of criminal wrongdoing in last year's fatal shooting of a relative of Iraq's ambassador to the United States, a U.S. official said Wednesday.

The 21-year-old engineering student, Mohammed Sumaidaie, was killed during a search of his family's home near Haditha on June 25, 2005. U.S. authorities ordered an investigation after Samir Sumaidaie complained that his unarmed cousin had been shot in cold blood.

However, Maj. Douglas Powell, a U.S. military spokesman, said the Naval Criminal Investigative Service determined that the Marine "acted properly in self defense in response to unexpectedly encountering a man pointing an AK-47 at him."

There will be no more volunteers or re-ups.

Just back from a combat training graduation ceremony for new Marines. Shame you didn't see it.

I'm almost finished with Ilario Pantana's 'Warlords' book. Pantana, you recall, was charged with and acquitted of murdering a couple Iraqi insurgents. These trials are getting a lot of our guys killed.

These prosecutions are a drop in a bucket and everyone with sense knows it. The Marines are showing themselves Ivory soap pure. Perhaps it's best that those without sense decline to re-up, though.

Had Murtha said anything about this particular Marine and case?

Thanks for the ping--I'm hoping one day everyone currently charged will be cleared. Sure, I know the story about bad apples, but my prayer is that they were culled before landing in Iraq.

So even the Iraqi Ambassador is given to smearing our Marines...... don't think we can ever trust anyone from these hellholes......

Further down in the article, it states that since the shooting, the former Iraqi ambassador is now the Iraqi envoy ... in Washington. Lovely

Good news for our Marine, though!

I guess that engineering student didn't listen to Tim Wilson's song

Don't know if this is a reliable news source, but the International Herald Tribune reports In break with U.S., Iraqi leader assails Israel. If true, it's a darned shame, after all we've done for him and his country.

Thank you for the link. Based on your article:

It seems that he is calling for it to be debated at the Arab League foreign ministers' meeting in Cairo, keeping his gripes "in the family," as it were. It appears to be rhetoric aimed at scoring political points at home, without conviction of world agreement with his stance. Not that pandering to ingrates is a good thing, either ...

If there's guns in the room one better be yours....

This is one of Hubby's favorites - be glad you didn't see him laughing and dancing to it.

Just call it a strategic withdrawal, leave plenty of ammo and weapons, then go back in two years and wipe out the winners. No matter when we leave, they will fight each other in the name of Allah, the moon god

Sorry Mr. Murtha, violates at least two Patton maxims:

1) "Victory is a soldier standing with his weapon and no one is shooting at him."

2) When given a similar suggestion: "I don't believe in paying for the same ground twice."

I wore the cassette out and had to buy the CD.
First time I heard it I was laughing so hard I missed half the song.
Mr Freema sounds like my kind of people.
Anyone who likes Tim Wilson is OK in my book.
